Safety of moxidectin in avermectin-sensitive Collies
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 2000Abstract Objective—To evaluate the safety of moxidectin administration at doses of 30, 60, and 90 µg/kg of body weight (10, 20, and 30 times the manufacturer's recommended dose) in avermectin-sensitive Collies. Animals—24 Collies. Procedure—Collies with mild to severe reactions to ivermectin challenge (120 mg/kg; 20 times ...

Moxidectin against ivermectin‐resistant nematodes ‐ a global view
Australian Veterinary Journal, 1994SUMMARY Macrocyclic lactone endectocides include two chemically distinct compounds moxidectin, a milbemycin, and ivermectin, an avermectin. The significance of the chemical differences between these compounds in relation to nematode resistance remains to be established. Reported studies indicate that moxidectin at the recommended dose rate of 0.2 mg/kg

Moxidectin-resistant nematodes in cattle in Brazil
Veterinary Parasitology, 2009The frequent use of anthelmintics in cattle has contributed to the emergence of gastrointestinal nematode populations resistant to the drugs available in the market. This study aimed to evaluate moxidectin efficacy in a property with suspected presence of Oesophagostomum spp. resistant to such anthelmintic.

Moxidectin: Metabolic Fate and Blood Pharmacokinetics of 14C-Labeled Moxidectin in Horses
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1997Serum and whole blood pharmacokinetics of moxidectin and excretion and biotransformation in edible tissues and excreta have been evaluated in the horse at a dose level of 0.4 mg/kg of body weight. Three animals were orally dosed with 14C-labeled moxidectin, formulated as a gel.

Loperamide‐induced enhancement of moxidectin availability in cattle
Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 2002Moxidectin (MXD) is a milbemycin endectocide compound active at extremely low dosages against a wide variety of nematode and arthropod parasites. Different pharmacological approaches are currently being tested to delay the bile‐faecal elimination and to obtain increased systemic availability for endectocide molecules in ruminants.

Clinical trial of moxidectin oral gel in horses
Veterinary Parasitology, 1997A clinical trial carried out over 98 days was done to evaluate treatment of horses with moxidectin gel for efficacy as measured by (1) reduction in the production of parasite ova post treatment, (2) a comparison of the posttreatment parasite egg count suppression of moxidectin to ivermectin, and (3) assessment of the field safety, animal acceptance of ...

Efficacy of moxidectin against gastrointestinal nematodes of cattle
Veterinary Record, 1992Three groups of 11 naturally infected crossbred beef calves were injected subcutaneously with moxidectin 1 per cent injectable at 0.2 or 0.3 mg moxidectin/kg bodyweight or with the unmedicated vehicle. Nematode infections had been acquired during grazing from December to April.

Pharmacokinetics assessment of moxidectin long-acting formulation in cattle
Veterinary Parasitology, 2007The plasma kinetics disposition of moxidectin following a subcutaneous administration with a long-acting formulation (Cydectin) 10%, Fort Dodge Animal Health, France) at the recommended dose of 1 mg kg(-1) body weight was evaluated in Charolais cattle breed (five females weighing 425-450 kg) for 120 days.

[Moxidectin poisoning in a foal?].
Tijdschrift voor diergeneeskunde, 1999A 2 day old foal was presented with central nervous depression (coma) after moxidectin overdose. Moxidectin belongs to the milbemycin anthelmintics which elicit their working mechanism through a GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid)-stimulatory mode of action. The foal developed profound hypothermia, bradycardia and hypoventilation.

Respiratory failure attributable to moxidectin intoxication in a dog
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1999A 5-month-old 22-kg (48.4-lb) sexually intact male Collie was examined after ingesting a moxidectin-containing deworming medication. The dog was comatose and had respiratory arrest after progressively worsening lethargy, ataxia, and seizures. Exposure was confirmed by isolation of moxidectin from a biopsy specimen of adipose tissue, using liquid ...
