Ivermectin resistance in the nematode Haemonchus contortus has been reported in many parts of the world and many ivermectin resistant isolates have been found to have reduced sensitivity to moxidectin. However, it is unclear whether parasites that are selected with moxidectin would demonstrate reduced sensitivity to ivermectin.

Responsible use of moxidectin in sheep
Veterinary Record, 2020SCOPS (sustainable control of parasites in sheep) and Zoetis held a joint workshop in September 2019 to discuss how to advise prescribers and sheep farmers on the use of moxidectin, and prioritising the 2 per cent injectable formulation. This was in response to concerns regarding reports of potential overuse, in particular, as a treatment for ewes at ...

Depletion of Moxidectin Tissue Residues in Sheep
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2000The pattern of tissue depletion of moxidectin (MXD) subcutaneously administered to sheep was characterized in this study. MXD concentration profiles were determined in muscle, fat, and liver and at the site of injection following administration of a formulation combining MXD (0.5% w/v) with a standard 6 in 1 clostridial vaccine.

Pharmacokinetics of moxidectin and doramectin in goats
Research in Veterinary Science, 1999The pharmacokinetic behaviour of doramectin after a single subcutaneous administration and moxidectin following a single subcutaneous or oral drench were studied in goats at a dosage of 0.2 mg kg(-1). The drug plasma concentration-time data were analysed by compartmental pharmacokinetics and non-compartmental methods.

BACKGROUND Current treatments for sarcoptic mange in rabbits mainly include administration of avermectines every 10-30 days. Recently, a single oral dose of fluralaner has been shown to be effective to treat sarcoptic mange in 12 pet rabbits over a three-

Vector Borne and Zoonotic Diseases, 2022
The American Heartworm Society (AHS) recommends the three-dose alternate melarsomine therapeutic regimen, together with a macrocyclic lactone (ML) to reduce new infections and eliminate susceptible larvae and doxycycline against Wolbachia bacteria.

Efficacy of moxidectin against cyathostomins
Veterinary Record, 2009It would be very encouraging if the report of [Schumacher and others (2009)][1] was a true indication of the lack of moxidectin resistance in horses after its use for five years in a heavily stocked pasture, but on the data presented I do not believe that this conclusion can be reached.

Moxidectin against ivermectin‐resistant nematodes ‐ a global view
Australian Veterinary Journal, 1994SUMMARY Macrocyclic lactone endectocides include two chemically distinct compounds moxidectin, a milbemycin, and ivermectin, an avermectin. The significance of the chemical differences between these compounds in relation to nematode resistance remains to be established. Reported studies indicate that moxidectin at the recommended dose rate of 0.2 mg/kg

Moxidectin-resistant nematodes in cattle in Brazil
Veterinary Parasitology, 2009The frequent use of anthelmintics in cattle has contributed to the emergence of gastrointestinal nematode populations resistant to the drugs available in the market. This study aimed to evaluate moxidectin efficacy in a property with suspected presence of Oesophagostomum spp. resistant to such anthelmintic.

Moxidectin: Metabolic Fate and Blood Pharmacokinetics of 14C-Labeled Moxidectin in Horses
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1997Serum and whole blood pharmacokinetics of moxidectin and excretion and biotransformation in edible tissues and excreta have been evaluated in the horse at a dose level of 0.4 mg/kg of body weight. Three animals were orally dosed with 14C-labeled moxidectin, formulated as a gel.
