Computing Bounds of the MTTF for a Set of Markov Chains

2013
We present an algorithm to find some upper and lower bounds of the Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) for a set of absorbing Discrete Time Markov Chains (DTMC). We first present a link between the MTTF of an absorbing chain and the steady-state distribution of an ergodic DTMC derived from the absorbing one.

Exploiting Dynamic Platform Protection Technique for Increasing Service MTTF

2019 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2019
Moving Target Defense (MTD) technology protects a target system by complicating the attacking process of adversaries. It has been gaining more and more attention with the massive growth of vulnerabilities and the widespread deployment of critical network services.

Choosing a Practical MTTF Model for ECC Memory Chip

Annual Reliability and Maintainability Symposium, 1984. Proceedings., 2005
This paper presents an assessment and evaluation of the leading memory chip error correction code (ECC) reliability prediction models. Criteria was developed and applied to four of the currently most popular ECC memory chip reliability models. The characteristic analysis, reliability prediction models and modifications to these reliability prediction ...

Usefulness of MTTF of s-independent case in other cases

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1992
It is a plausible conjecture that for many cases of statistical dependence, the system MTTF (mean time to failure) is nearly that for statistically independent components. The author deals with Markov k-out-of-n:F systems, for which the degree to which the above conjecture is true could be clarified satisfactorily.

Determinations of MTTF from the Transition Probability Matrix & Diagram

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1978
In designing complex repairable systems it is often important to assess system MTTF for a variety of component reliability characteristics and repair capabilities. Two procedures are given for systems for which a state transition diagram is possible. The first allows such calculation to be perforned iteratively without solving each time the system of ...

Evaluation of MTTF and reliability of a power plant by BF technique

Microelectronics Reliability, 1986
In this paper, investigations have been carried out for the evaluation of reliability and MTTF (mean time to failure) of a parallel redundant complex system; viz. a power plant. The object of the system is to supply power generated by generators from a power house to a very important consumer, connected by cables and switches.

MTTF and MTFF of a k out of n system

Microelectronics Reliability, 1987
Abstract The distributions of operating and repairing time of a k out of n system are analysed when the system reaches the steady state. The MTTF would be a lower bound for the MTFF if the system starts at a state where all components are operating like new.

Improvement of MTTF of feedforward neural networks by applying relearning

Electronics and Communications in Japan (Part II: Electronics), 2002
AbstractMany neural networks have been studied, most of them using computer simulations, as a source of new computational paradigms. Since most implementations of neural networks require many elemental components, it is necessary to use a fault‐tolerance mechanism with them.

A New Technique for MTTF Estimation in Highly Reliable Markovian Systems

Monte Carlo Methods and Applications, 1998
A new method for the importance sampling simulation of highly reliable Markovian systems is presented. The method has the bounded relative error for balanced and under an additional assumption, unbalanced systems. It has shown very high efficiency in the estimation of the mean time to failure (MTTF) of a system, which is a measure of great importance ...
