Boundary Lubrication by Associative Mucin

open access: yes, 2015
Mucus lubricants are widely distributed in living organisms. Such lubricants consist of a gel structure constructed by associative mucin. However, limited tribological studies exist on associative mucin fluids.

Dual‐Dynamically Crosslinked Nanogels Enable Prolonged Ocular Retention for Multimodal Dry Eye Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This berberine‐loaded dual‐dynamically crosslinked nanogel integrates tannic acid‐zinc metal‐phenolic networks and carboxymethyl chitosan/aldehyde‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) dynamic Schiff base networks, achieving 1‐year colloidal and antioxidant stability, sustained corneal berberine exposure for 24 h to support convenient once‐daily dosing,

European guidelines from the EHTG and ESCP for Lynch syndrome: an updated third edition of the Mallorca guidelines based on gene and gender

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
Recommendations for clinical and molecular identification of LS, surgical and endoscopic management of LS‐associated colorectal cancer and preventive measures for cancer were produced. The emphasis was on surgical and gastroenterological aspects of the cancer spectrum.

Stabilizing Functional Nucleic Acids for Real‐Sample Diagnostics

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Functional nucleic acids enable programmable real‐sample diagnostics, but often lose function in complex biological matrices. This review highlights four stabilization levers—chemical, topological, architectural, and microenvironment/interface engineering—that preserve aptamer and DNAzyme performance in saliva, serum, urine, and stool, reframing ...

Acinar‐Derived Organoids Reveal Stage‐Specific Control of Acinar Plasticity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An acinar‐derived organoid system maintains adult pancreatic acinar identity ex vivo, converts it along an ordered acinar‐to‐ductal‐like trajectory, and then partially restores it. Each transition carries its own signal requirement, with EGF/EGFR initiating conversion and a staged glucocorticoid–IGF1R switch driving redifferentiation.

Extending Small‐Molecule Aptamer Discovery Principles to Protein Targets: Selection and Characterization of Green Fluorescent Protein Aptamers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Protein‐binding aptamers remain poorly understood compared to their small‐molecule counterparts. Using green fluorescent protein (GFP) variants as a tractable model system, we show how subtle changes in protein surface composition and divalent metal ions reshape aptamer selection, specificity, and binding.

Impact of Postoperative Infectious Complications on Long‐Term Survival After Curative Resection for Colorectal Cancer: A Multicenter Study in the Minimally Invasive Era

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Postoperative infectious complications (PICs) have been associated with poor long‐term outcomes after colorectal cancer surgery, but evidence in the modern minimally invasive era remains limited. In this multicenter cohort of 5377 patients undergoing curative resection, PICs were independently associated with worse overall survival and relapse‐free ...

Molecular mechanisms of bitterness and astringency in the oral cavity induced by soyasaponin

open access: yesFood Science and Human Wellness
The interaction mechanism between soyasaponin (Ssa) and bitter receptors/mucin, as well as the saliva interface behavior of Ssa, were investigated to explore the presentation mechanism of Ssa bitterness and astringency (BA).

Biological Resectability in Colorectal Liver Metastases: A Nomogram‐Based Continuous Risk Model to Define Borderline Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
KRAS mutation demonstrated a prognostic impact according to primary tumor sidedness, independent of tumor morphology, in patients undergoing hepatectomy for colorectal liver metastases. A nomogram integrating biological and clinicopathological factors was developed to provide continuous biological risk assessment.

ZMapp reduces diffusion of Ebola viral particles in fresh human cervicovaginal mucus

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections
Vaginal transmission from semen of male Ebola virus (EBOV) survivors has been implicated as a potential origin of Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreaks. While EBOV in semen must traverse cervicovaginal mucus (CVM) to reach target cells, the behaviour of ...
