Mucoadhesive Buccal Films

Journal of Community Pharmacy Practice, 2023
Pharmaceutical formulations are experiencing a significant transformation as novel drug delivery techniques become increasingly available and effective. While there are many different types of medical dosage forms, each has its own limitations, such as tablet choking and painful parenteral dosages.

Manufacture and characterization of mucoadhesive buccal films

European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, 2011
The buccal route of administration has a number of advantages including bypassing the gastrointestinal tract and the hepatic first pass effect. Mucoadhesive films are retentive dosage forms and release drug directly into a biological substrate. Furthermore, films have improved patient compliance due to their small size and reduced thickness, compared ...

Buccal Mucoadhesive Films: A Review

Systematic Reviews in Pharmacy, 2016
Traditional oral dosage forms prone to first pass metabolism and degra-dation due to enzymes but mucoadhesive films able to bypass first pass metabolism and related degradation. It also offers more patient compliance without risk of chocking in case of paediatric and geriatric patients. Present review has summarised basics of mucoadhesion, composition,

Mucoadhesive oral films: The potential for unmet needs

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2015
Oral drug delivery is the most common route of drug administration. Nevertheless, there are some important limitations that reinforce the need for developing new drug delivery systems. Mucoadhesive oral films (MOF) are promising dosage forms that adhere to the oral mucosa and deliver the drug through it, which present several advantages. These include:

Intestinal locomotion by means of mucoadhesive films

ICAR '05. Proceedings., 12th International Conference on Advanced Robotics, 2005., 2005
Colonoscopy is a standard medical procedure in which a long flexible endoscope is inserted into the rectum for inspection of the colon. Pushing the endoscope along the colon from behind can cause painful cramps to the patient, and entails the risk of perforation of the colonic wall.

SIMPLE TECHNIQUE FOR PREPARING MUCOADHESIVE FILMS

INDIAN DRUGS, 2012
Polymeric mucoadhesive films are considered highly effective alternative to various other mucoadhesive drug delivery devices like tablets, gels or patches. The moulds or petridishes generally employed in formulating such mucoadhesive films invariably leads to variation in heterogeneity of film thickness and eventually drug content in the film portion ...

Mucoadhesive and Elastic Films Based on Blends of Chitosan and Hydroxyethylcellulose

Macromolecular Bioscience, 2008
AbstractMucoadhesive polymeric films have been prepared based on blends of chitosan and hydroxyethylcellulose. The blends have been characterized by IR spectroscopy, DSC, WAXD, TGA, SEM, and mechanical testing. It is demonstrated that the mechanical properties of chitosan are improved significantly upon blending with hydroxyethylcellulose.

Preparation and Evaluation of Acebutolol Mucoadhesive Films

ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry
Mucoadhesive drug delivery offers a safe and easy method of drug utilization, because drug absorption can be promptly terminated in case of toxicity by removing the dosage form. A mucoadhesive film for systemic administration of acebutolol has been developed using HPMC K4M, HPMC E5, HPMC E15, Carbopol and Eudragit and ethanol by solvent casting method.
