Decentralized Adaptive Load Frequency Control in a Multi-Area Power System

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2001
Abstract The emergence of competitive forces in the electricity market and the demand for lower electricity rates will inevitably reduce the degree of co-operation between interconnected utilities. Therefore, the power system centralized control strategy leaves space to a decentralized one. But the main problem is that a decentralized strategy has to

Robust Control of Frequency for Multi-Area Power System

2020 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP), 2020
The problem of compensating frequency disruption during load variation is addressed in this article with the help of an optimal control strategy based on linear-quadratic- Gaussian (LQG) controller incorporated with an integral action. The controller is designed and implemented on a two-area interconnected power system to control frequency through load

Distributed coordination-by-constraint strategies in networked multi-area power systems

2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2011
A distributed constrained supervisory strategy for Load/Frequency control problems in networked multi-area power systems is presented. The aim is at finding a coordination strategy able to reconfigure, whenever necessary in response to unexpected load changes and/or faults, the nominal set-point on frequency and generated power to the generators of ...

Study of impact of wind power penetration on frequency stabilization in multi-area power system

2013 8TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ADVANCED TOPICS IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING (ATEE), 2013
This paper presents a comprehensive study on the wind power impact with increasing penetration on frequency stabilization in restructured power system scenario. The focus of the study is on faster and smoother settlement of frequency and tie-line power.

Intelligent Decentralized Controllers for Multi Area Power Systems

2006 1ST IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2006
This paper deals with the design of decentralized controllers based on conventional approach and intelligent approach using fuzzy concept. In conventional approach a simple method decentralized Kalman filter based regulator to place closed loop eigenvalues at desired locations by minimizing the linear quadratic performance index of each decoupled sub ...

Modeling the electric power consumption in a multi-area system

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 2010
In this article a model of the electric power consumption in a multi-area power system is derived. The model is based on stochastic differential equations to mimic the stochastic behavior of electric power consumption in large systems. The developed model considers correlations between the consumptions in the different areas.

Distributed economic dispatch for a multi-area power system

2015 IEEE 10th Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA), 2015
In this paper, we present a distributed economic dispatch strategy for a multi-area power system. We treat each generator and load in the grid as an “agent”. Due to the large-scale number of the agents, the agents in the same area can be sorted as one group and each group has a leader to communicate with its neighboring areas.

VAR optimization and pricing in multi-areas power system

2003 IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37491), 2004
This paper presents an approach to calculate the price of reactive power (VAR) support service and optimize the VAR control in a multi-area power system. For the calculation of VAR pricing, the VAR support benefits with respect to power delivery increases of tie lines are computed.

The DC power planning for network flexibility in the multi-area power system

2019 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT), 2019
The integration of variable uncertain renewable generation, together with the increased consumers active role and energy-constraint resources (energy efficiency, demand response and energy storage), result in the need for a more flexible grid infrastructure with adequate ramping capability.
