Hierarchical economic dispatch for multi-area power systems
Electric Power Systems Research, 1991Abstract In a multi-area power system, power exchange through tie lines such that the overall cost of the system operation is a minimum is a major economic dispatch problem. In this paper, techniques and methods are presented for solving the economic dispatch problem of radially interconnected power systems. The proposed method, based on a multi-area

A novel approach for automatic generation control of a multi-area power system
2011 24th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering(CCECE), 2011This paper deals with artificial neural network (ANN) based ANFIS approach for automatic generation control (AGC) of a multi-area hydro-thermal system. The proposed ANFIS controller combines the advantages of fuzzy controller and quick response and adaptability nature of ANN.

Event-Triggered Sliding-Mode Control for Multi-Area Power Systems
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2017This paper solves the load frequency control problem and proposes a new event-triggered sliding-mode control (SMC) algorithm in multi-area interconnected power systems. First, we consider a three-area interconnected power system, and construct its corresponding mathematical model.

Distributed transmission expansion planning in multi-area electric power systems
2016 IEEE Power & Energy Society Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference (ISGT), 2016This paper presents a distributed transmission expansion planning (TEP) approach for multi-area power systems. A local TEP is formulated for each area with respect to local characteristics of that area as well as power flow in existing and candidate tie-lines that interconnect the area with its neighbors.

Set‐points reconfiguration in networked multi‐area electrical power systems
International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, 2008AbstractIn this paper we present a supervisory strategy for load/frequency control problems in networked multi‐area electrical power systems. The proposed strategy exploits a recently developed constrained control methodology named Parameter Governor, which is based on predictive control ideas and combines in a unique framework the actions of Reference

Multi-area generation adequacy and capacity credit in power system analysis
2017 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT-Asia), 2017A generator's contribution to the generation adequacy of a power system is more accurately captured by its capacity credit than by its installed capacity. The capacity credit takes into account factors such as forced outages and limited energy supply and the latter is especially important for volatile renewable sources that behave quite differently ...

Stability enhancement of a multi-area power system with unified power flow controller
2014 IEEE 8th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO2014), 2014In this research work, to empower more sophisticated control design, a new approach to build a nonlinear dynamic model of the power system is introduced. The proposed advancement is a complementary scheme of solving the differential-algebraic equations; for which achieving the control design has always been a challenge.

Distributed parallel coordination-by-constraint strategies in networked multi-area power systems
21st Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation, 2013A parellel distributed constrained supervisory strategy for Load/Frequency control problems in networked multi-area power systems is presented. The aim is at proposing a novel coordination strategy that is more effective with respect to the sequential distributed scheme presented in [1]. The proposed method is able to reconfigure, whenever necessary in

Multi-area unit commitment for large-scale power systems
IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 1998A large-scale multi-area unit commitment is presented using a Lagrangian relaxation approach. The problem with a transmission network of several thousand buses and lines is equivalently modelled by a system with relatively few areas. Crucial tie-lines between areas are directly modelled.
