A Hybrid Priority-Laxity-Based Scheduling Algorithm for Real-Time Aperiodic Tasks Under Varying Environmental Conditions

open access: yesIEEE Access
Efficient task scheduling is fundamental to real-time systems, where minimizing deadline misses and improving stability and determinism are the main goals.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

An Efficient Racetrack Cache Architecture for Performance-Area-Energy Co-Optimization

open access: yesIEEE Access
Prior RTM cache architectures, originally designed for smaller caches, become suboptimal when scaled to larger RTM Last-Level caches (LLCs), because they prioritize performance over energy and area efficiency.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Multi-core Decision Diagrams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Decision diagrams are fundamental data structures that revolutionized fields such as model checking, automated reasoning and decision processes. As performance gains in the current era mostly come from parallel processing, an ongoing challenge is to develop data structures and algorithms for modern multicore architectures.

GDNF‐RET signaling drives pulmonary neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia and allergic airway inflammation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A neuroimmune interaction centered on the PNEC‐ILC2 axis in an asthma model. PNEC‐derived CGRP activates nearby ILC2s, which then release cytokines, including IL‐5 and IL‐13. These cytokines promote eosinophil and macrophage infiltration. Subsequently, GDNF produced by these cells induces PNEC hyperplasia via the GDNF receptors, RET and GFRα1 ...

Early-Stage Planning of Switched-Capacitor Converters in a Heterogeneous Chip

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The switched-capacitor converter (SCC) has been widely used for voltage regulation in multicore chips, where energy efficiency is the major concern. However as the overhead to integrate SCCs in a chip is non-negligible, the SCCs could not be overused ...
