Ultrasound-mediated piezoelectric differentiation of neuron-like PC12 cells on PVDF membranes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Electrical and/or electromechanical stimulation has been shown to play a significant role in regenerating various functionalities in soft tissues, such as tendons, muscles, and nerves. In this work, we investigate the piezoelectric polymer polyvinylidene

A Pixilated Spectrometer Based on Single Liquid Crystal and Sparse Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
A method of achieving integrated microspectrometer with small size, high-energy efficiency, and high spectrum resolution is proposed. This spectrometer utilizes the single-pixilated liquid crystal (LC) and a matched sparse representation algorithm.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Multi-scale underwater descattering

open access: yes2016 23rd International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), 2016
Underwater images suffer from severe perceptual/visual degradation, due to the dense and non-uniform medium, causing scattering and attenuation of the propagated light that is sensed. Typical restoration methods rely on the popular Dark Channel Prior to estimate the light attenuation factor, and subtract the back-scattered light influence to invert the

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

The role of gravity or pressure and contact stiffness in granular rheology

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
The steady-state shear rheology of granular materials is investigated in slow quasistatic and inertial flows. The effect of gravity (thus the local pressure) and the often-neglected contact stiffness are the focus of this study.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Collaborative soil moisture inversion with multi-source remote sensing data [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences
Soil moisture is a key variable in the global water cycle, carbon balance and energy conversion, and is crucial for hydrological control, meteorological forecasting and crop growth. Pengyang County in Ningxia is a typical region with fragile ecology.
