Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Micromechanics-based constitutive relations for post-localization analysis

open access: yesMethodsX, 2018
Micromechanics-based constitutive relations for post-localization analysis are obtained, to be used in a multi-surface representation of porous metal plasticity. Each yield surface involves a number of internal parameters.

Three-dimensional rigid limit equilibrium analysis method for multi-block sliding in arch dam abutment

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2022
Multi-block sliding is a common and important failure mode in arch dam abutment. The current stability analysis methods established generally have certain deficiencies: a lot of assumptions must be introduced to make the problem static, or some methods ...

A robust computational strategy for failure prediction of masonry structures using an improved multi‐surface damage‐plastic based interface model

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2023
AbstractIn this study, a new traction‐separation based constitutive model for use in finite element simulation of masonry joints under complex loading conditions is developed for cohesive elements. The proposed model is formulated using damage parameters and plastic deformation with mutual couplings, and can accurately simulate the complex nonlinear ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Soil Masing Behaviour for Offshore Wind Turbines—Fatigue Design and a Simple Damping Model

open access: yesWind Energy
Fatigue damage accumulation for offshore wind turbines is highly dependent on damping of the structure and particularly on the soil damping contribution during idling conditions.
