Formation and Microstructure of Ultrafine-Grained Titanium Processed by Multi-Directional Forging

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2016
Ultrafine-grained titanium with uniform grain size for medical applications is obtained by multi-directional forging at 773 K in air. The microstructures and microtextures in the deformed titanium specimens are investigated by optical microscopy, electron backscattered diffraction technique, and transmission electron microscopy.

Improved Mechanical Properties of AZ31 Alloy Fabricated by Multi-Directional Forging

Key Engineering Materials, 2017
In this work, the tensile properties of AZ31 Mg alloy deformed by multi-directional forging (MDF) were investigated at room temperature. And the enhanced mechanical properties of yield strength of 93 MPa, ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 253 MPa and elongation of 29% were achieved.

Effect of Forging Temperature on Deformability and Structure Evolution of High Purity Aluminium during Multi-Directional Forging Process

Materials Science Forum, 2016
The effects of final forging temperatures on deformability and structure evolution of high purity aluminum during multi-directional forging process were investigated. The results showed that increasing the initial forging temperature is beneficial for controlling the sample shape in the initial forging passes.

Influence of the forming angle in cross wedge rolling on the multi-directional forging of crankshafts

International Journal of Material Forming, 2016
In each industrial process for the production of crankshafts a low energy demand and a fast processing time are required. Crankshafts have a very complex geometry and are forged with a high percentage of flash compared to other forging parts. Recent research showed the feasibility of a flashless forging of crankshafts.

Experimental study and finite element analysis on the frame of multi-directional forging press

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 2016
With the development of multi-directional forging technology, heavy multi-directional forging press has been widely used in manufacturing industry. However, there is a contradiction between the independence of structure and the independence of mechanics, which becomes a bottleneck and limits the development of heavy multi-directional forging press ...

Continuous static recrystallization in ultrafine-grained copper processed by multi-directional forging

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2008
Abstract Annealing processes in copper, processed by multi-directional forging to strains of ɛ  = 0.4–6.0 at 300 K, were studied at 503–573 K. Strain-induced ultrafine-grained copper shows mainly grain coarsening behaviour, which is categorized in three stages, i.e.

Nano-grain evolution in austenitic stainless steel during multi-directional forging

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2011
Abstract Nano-grain evolution in an austenitic stainless steel (SUS 316) during multidirectional forging (MDF) was investigated at temperatures of 77 K and 300 K. The flow stress during MDF and the room-temperature hardness increased significantly with increasing cumulative strain.

Superplasticity of multi-directional impact forged Mg–Gd–Y-Zr alloy

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2016
Abstract A novel multi-directional impact forging (MDIF) process was successfully applied to a Mg–Gd–Y-Zr alloy and the superplasticity of the MDIFed alloy was investigated. It was shown that the initial microstructure after MDIF had a unique characteristic of coarse grains decorated by profuse tension twins. Tensile tests at various temperatures and

Mechanical Properties of Multi-Directional Forged Al-7Si-4Zn-3Cu Alloy

Defect and Diffusion Forum, 2018
In this study, Al-7Si-4Zn-3Cu alloy was processed by multi-directional forging (MDF) at 3, 6 and pass corresponding one, two and three cycle, respectively. The structural and mechanical properties of the alloys were investigated at as-cast, homogenised and MDF states.

Experimental investigation of different parameters at a combined cross wedge rolling and multi-directional forging process

Production Engineering, 2017
To forge a flashless crankshaft within few steps and with low energy consumption innovative forging processes are necessary, such as cross wedge rolling and multi-directional forging. The direct combination of the two forming processes normally leads to flash at the bottom of the crankweb preform after the multi-directional forging.
