Microstructure Evolution of AZ80 Magnesium Alloy during Multi-Directional Forging Process

open access: yesMATERIALS TRANSACTIONS, 2014
Grain refinement of a magnesium alloy, AZ80, was studied in multi-directional forging (MDF) with decreasing temperatures from 683 to 573K. The MDF was carried out up to accumulative true strains of around 7 with changing the loading direction from pass to pass.

An adaptive, fully implicit multigrid phase-field model for the quantitative simulation of non-isothermal binary alloy solidification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Using state-of-the-art numerical techniques, such as mesh adaptivity, implicit time-stepping and a non-linear multi-grid solver, the phase-field equations for the non-isothermal solidification of a dilute binary alloy have been solved.

Decreasing the mechanical anisotropy of the forged Mg-8.5Gd-2.5Y-1.5Zn-0.5Zr alloy by modulating blocky LPSO particles using multi-directional forging

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
The blocky LPSO particles were modulated by single-directional and multi-directional forging, and the effect of blocky LPSO particles on the anisotropy of mechanical properties of Mg-8.5Gd-2.5Y-1.5Zn-0.5Zr alloy forged parts was investigated.

Refinement mechanism of centimeter-grade coarse grains in as-cast Ti2AlNb-based alloy during multi-directional forging

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2023
Centimeter-grade coarse grains commonly exist in heavy ingots of Ti2AlNb-based alloy and severely deteriorate their workability. To investigate the refinement of coarse grains, multi-directional isothermal forging (MDIF) was carried out on samples cut ...

Effect of multi-pass multi-directional forging on tribological properties of Si-rich eutectoid ZA alloys

open access: yesTransactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China, 2021
Abstract The effect of multi-pass multi-directional forge (MDF) on the tribological properties of ZA22−xSi alloy (x=0, 4, 8 wt.%) was investigated. The results indicate that MDF breaks down the cast microstructure of alloys and produces a well-modified microstructure comprising finely distributed α- and η-phases and primary Si particles.
