High Resolution Calibration of a Multibeam Echo Sounder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Calibration can greatly increase the utility of collecting seafloor backscattering strength with multibeam echo sounders (MBES). A calibration procedure to determine high resolution, three dimensional transmit and receive beam patterns of a Reson SeaBat ...

Digital Twin‐Based Optimization of Service Availability in LEO Mega Constellations Considering Handover Delays in Open RAN

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As non‐terrestrial networks (NTNs) become integral to future 6G systems, ensuring seamless connectivity and service continuity over low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations is essential. This work investigates the impact of open radio access network (RAN) functional splits on handover performance in NTNs, focusing on minimizing service ...

Acoustic evidence of hydrocarbon release associated with the Spitsbergen Transform Fault, north of the Molloy Ridge, Fram Strait

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Hydrocarbon gases formed from biotic and abiotic processes are released through the seafloor at different locations around the world. They have been widely observed directly in video and photo data, and indirectly on echosounder data.

Interactive 3-D Visualization: A tool for seafloor navigation, exploration, and engineering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Recent years have seen remarkable advances in sonar technology, positioning capabilities, and computer processing power that have revolutionized the way we image the seafloor.

Pre‐failure behavior of continuous post‐tensioned and post‐grouted beam in case of tendon failure

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Grouted tendons are a common solution for long‐span bridge structures. The grout provides bond and corrosion protection for prestressing steel. However, if the grouting is defective, corrosion of the prestressing steel may initiate and eventually lead to tendon failure.

Harmonizing Multi-Source Sonar Backscatter Datasets for Seabed Mapping Using Bulk Shift Approaches

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
The development of multibeam echosounders (MBES) as a seabed mapping tool has resulted in the widespread uptake of backscatter intensity as an indicator of seabed substrate properties.

The high-frequency backscattering angular response of gassy sediments: Model/data comparison from the Eel River Margin, California [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A model for the high-frequency backscatter angular response of gassy sediments is proposed. For the interface backscatter contribution we adopted the model developed by Jackson et al. @J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 79, 1410–1422 ~1986!#, but added modifications to

Palaeolandscape reconstruction of a shallow coastal embayment in Kattegat, Denmark—influence of sea‐level changes during the latest Pleistocene and Holocene

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We analyse the geological processes of a coastal embayment in the Kattegat. Using high‐resolution seismic data and sediment cores, we describe a geological evolution from glacial to shallow marine stages with a variety of preserved facies from different depositional settings, including glacio‐lacustrine, telmatic, limnic and coastal environments.

Quantifying Marine Sedimentary Carbon: A New Spatial Analysis Approach Using Seafloor Acoustics, Imagery, and Ground-Truthing Data in Scotland

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2020
Marine sediments are important repositories of organic matter, effectively burying organic carbon (OC) over geological timescales thus providing a climate regulation service.

The Sparing Effect of Multibeam Ultra‐High Dose‐Rate Irradiation on Intestinal Tissue in Mice

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that UHDR retains its robust sparing effects on intestinal toxicity under multibeam conditions with a split dose thresholds at 2.2–4 Gy. These findings suggest that multibeam irradiation can be employed in abdominal and pelvic UHDR to achieve good dose conformity.
