Laser Micromachining for Bioelectronics: Past, Present, and Future

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Lasers offer a straightforward, flexible, and versatile route to the manufacture of bioelectronic devices, with distinct advantages over alternatives such as photolithography and printing. The key aspects of a laser when considering their use in bioelectronics fabrication are discussed in this review, and the development of laser micromachining within ...

Multibeam Characteristics of a Negative Refractive Index Shaped Lens

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Narrow beam width, higher gain and multibeam characteristics are demanded in 5G technology. Array antennas that are utilized in the existing mobile base stations have many drawbacks when operating at upper 5G frequency bands. For example, due to the high

Variability of Natural Methane Bubble Release at Southern Hydrate Ridge

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2021
Current estimations of seabed methane release into the ocean (0.4–48 Tg yr−1) are based on short‐term observations and implicitly assume that fluxes are constant over time.

Multibeam single frequency synthetic aperture radar processor for imaging separate range swaths [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
A single-frequency multibeam synthetic aperture radar for large swath imaging is disclosed. Each beam illuminates a separate ""footprint'' (i.e., range and azimuth interval).

Palaeolandscape reconstruction of a shallow coastal embayment in Kattegat, Denmark—influence of sea‐level changes during the latest Pleistocene and Holocene

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We analyse the geological processes of a coastal embayment in the Kattegat. Using high‐resolution seismic data and sediment cores, we describe a geological evolution from glacial to shallow marine stages with a variety of preserved facies from different depositional settings, including glacio‐lacustrine, telmatic, limnic and coastal environments.

Multicast Multigroup Precoding and User Scheduling for Frame-Based Satellite Communications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The present work focuses on the forward link of a broadband multibeam satellite system that aggressively reuses the user link frequency resources. Two fundamental practical challenges, namely the need to frame multiple users per transmission and the per ...

Evaluating the possible role of bottom currents and internal waves in shaping seafloor morphology in a mesophotic reef

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mesophotic reefs are located in low light conditions which, depending on the region, are usually found in water depths greater than ~30 m. They are less affected by ocean warming than reefs found in shallower water depths and thus might become increasingly important for the sustainability of marine biodiversity.

Harmonizing Multi-Source Sonar Backscatter Datasets for Seabed Mapping Using Bulk Shift Approaches

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
The development of multibeam echosounders (MBES) as a seabed mapping tool has resulted in the widespread uptake of backscatter intensity as an indicator of seabed substrate properties.
