Development of a niobium multicharged ion beamline

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B
A laser-driven multicharged ion beamline has been developed, incorporating electrostatic components for acceleration, beam shaping, focusing, and selection by ion charge and energy per charge. A 10 ns, 1064 nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, operated at a fluence of 68 J/cm2, ablates a Nb target to generate a plasma from which ions are extracted and ...

CHARGE TRANSFER TO MULTICHARGED RECOIL IONS IN A PENNING TRAP.

Physical Review Letters, 1983
Multicharged neon recoil ions at electronvolt energies are produced inside a Penning ion trap by fast, stripped-heavy-ion impact on neon atoms. The stored recoil ions capture electrons in collisions with the parent neon gas. The measured storage times are used with mean energy determinations and neon gas densities to determine charge-transfer rate ...

Relativistic Corrections in the Spectroscopy of Multicharged Ions

1992
In the theory of atomic spectra for neutral atoms and ions with small charges the need to take relativistic effects into account very seldom arises, the effects can be included as small corrections. The situation is different for multicharged ions because relativistic effects very strongly depend on the ion charge.

Electron impact ionization of multicharged ions

Physical Review A, 1976
Computations have been made of the electron-impact ionization cross sections of multicharged ions of C, O, N, Ne, and Ar in the binary-encounter approximation. For ions of the four lighter species, the dominant ionization mechanism is that of direct electron ejection to the continuum.

Excitation and ionization characteristics of multicharged ions

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1993
This short paper is devoted to analytical description of some radiative and collisional characteristics of multicharge ions: photoionization, excitation and ionization by electrons and ions. The corresponding formulas were obtained using accurate calculations and model potentials. The data presented can be used for solving plasma kinetic problems.

Potential Sputtering of Lithium Fluoride by Slow Multicharged Ions

Physical Review Letters, 1995
Thin polycrystalline LiF films have been bombarded by slow $(\ensuremath{\le}1$ keV) multicharged ${\mathrm{Ar}}^{q+}$ ions $(q\ensuremath{\le}9)$, in order to study the resulting total sputter yields by means of a quartz crystal microbalance. More than 99% of sputtered particles are neutral and show yields, at given impact energy, in proportion to the

Prospect for a 60 GHz multicharged ECR ion source

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2018
The conceptual design of a fourth generation hybrid electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion source operated at 60 GHz is proposed. The axial magnetic mirror is generated with a set of three Nb3Sn coils, while the hexapole is made with room temperature (RT) copper coils.

Modified arc ion source of multicharged ions of metals and gases

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1998
In the ion source described here, a heated 1500 °C discharge chamber was used and a special configuration of crossed E×B fields, thereby providing several times more ion-beam current. The design of this multicharged ion source has been developed to work for long periods and use moderate power in continuous operation.

Neutralization of negative hydrogen ions in collisions with multicharged fast ions

Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics, 1999
We study the neutralization of negative hydrogen ions in collisions with multicharged fast ions (including relativistic ions) by using an approach that allows a simple expression for the neutralization cross section to be derived over a range of collision parameters where the standard Born approximation breaks down.

Determination of extinction coefficients of ion pairs formed by multicharged ions

Mendeleev Communications, 2009
The reasons for discrepancies between reported values of extinction coefficients of ion pairs formed by multicharged ions are analysed and approaches to a correct description of such systems are suggested.
