Multimode optical fiber network
SPIE Proceedings, 2011This paper presents the multimode passive optical network for LAN (Local Area Network) application. These networks should be cheaper and more usable than single-mode structures. The paper presents possibilities of commercial application of multimode passive networks.

Multimode optical fiber sensors
1995Of the properties of light which can be conveniently modulated, phase and polarization information are immediately lost upon entering a multimode optical fiber. This leaves intensity as the only transmittable property available for use as a modulation sensitive parameter.

Thermooptic coupler for multimode optical fibers
Applied Optics, 1985The detailed theory is presented together with design considerations and recent experimental results for an electronically controllable directional coupler for multimode optical fibers. The device, based on plastic-clad silica fiber, is of exceptionally simple construction and compact size and is highly reliable.

Electrowetting switch for multimode optical fibers
Optical Fiber Communication, 1982Lightwave communications networks may require highly reliable optical switches for multimode fibers. Such switches should have low loss, low cross talk, low power consumption, and low operating voltages. Three types of switch have been proposed: mechanical: electrooptic; and liquid crystal. Mechanical switches, which operate by moving either the fibers

Multimode Fluoroindate Optical Fiber Coupler
2023 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2023Mid-Infrared wavelengths are attracting research attention because of its implications in a plethora of applications, including optical spectroscopy, chemical sensing, thermal imaging, light sources, and comb generation [1], [2]. However, the level of technological maturity is still limited because of the absence of the essential building blocks that ...

Multimode optical fiber photonic doppler velocimetery
Review of Scientific Instruments, 2018A new optical fiber head for Photonic Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) made from a combination of fiber types [multimode (MM) and single-mode (SM)] and lenses is described. The input laser beam is delivered by a SM fiber and imaged onto the target by simple optics, including an imaging lens centered inside a larger lens, whose role is to collect and image the

Tapered enlarged ends in multimode optical fibers
Applied Optics, 1982Radiation characteristics of multimode fibers with enlarged tapers were investigated on a number of samples obtained by varying the fiber drawing speed with a given law corresponding to a prefixed taper profile. The characterization of the fibers was made by near- and far-field intensity pattern measurements as well as by measuring the losses ...

Multimode nonlinear optical fiber calorimetry
CLEO 2023, 2023We show that the thermodynamic approach is able to predict the nonlinear interaction forces among different, orthogonally polarized photon gases in optical fibers. Calorimetry experiments demonstrate the validity of the second principle of thermodynamics.

Wavelength multiplexing in multimode optical fibers
Applied Optics, 1977The capacity of optical fiber transmission systems could be increased by multiplexing several signals at different wavelengths on each fiber. This paper considers various multiplex system designs that might be used with multimode fiber transmission systems.
