A multipath model for the powerline channel

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2002
The development of powerline communication (PLC) systems for Internet, voice, and data services requires measurement-based models of the transfer characteristics of the mains network suitable for performance analysis by simulation. This paper presents an analytic model describing complex transfer functions of typical powerline networks using only a ...

Multipath-cluster channel models

2012 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband, 2012
In multipath channels, paths often arrive in clusters. An early model that exhibits clustering was proposed by Saleh and Valenzuela in 1987, and since then, several extensions have been developed. Although these models are straightforward to simulate, little analysis of them has been carried out.

Advanced TOA Estimation For Multipath Channels

2020 IEEE/ION Position, Location and Navigation Symposium (PLANS), 2020
In this paper, estimation of time of arrival (TOA) in multipath environments is tackled as it is considered a real limiting factor in terrestrial and GNSS positioning systems. Novel methods are presented for designing novel near-causal filters and TOA-Matched Filters (TOA-MF) that facilitate estimation of the TOA. Near and far multipath are effectively

Ambiguity structure of multipath channels

[Proceedings] ICASSP-92: 1992 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1992
Using a recently proposed definition, the authors characterize the ambiguity function of the multipath underwater acoustic channel for passive localization. They study the impact of two factors not considered by previous definitions: uncertainty about the signal spectrum and existence of multiple paths between the source and the receiver.

Multipath Channel Tracking in OFDM Systems

2007 IEEE 18th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, 2007
High-quality channel estimation and tracking is central for coherent detection in wireless communication systems. Typical tracking algorithms assume the number of multipath components and delays to be known and constant, while their ampli- tudes may vary in time.

Multipath channel modeling with chaotic attractors

Proceedings of the IEEE, 2002
Previous works have introduced models based on deterministic chaos equations, aiming to simulate transmission processes over mobile radio digital channels at the level of the post detection error stochastic process and to reproduce their renewal or nonrenewal behaviors.

Bandwidth scaling for fading multipath channels

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2002
Summary: We show that very large bandwidths on fading multipath channels cannot be effectively utilized by spread-spectrum systems that (in a particular sense) spread the available power uniformly over both time and frequency. The approach is to express the input process as an expansion in an orthonormal set of functions each localized in time and ...

Signal detection in sparse multipath channels

2009 47th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2009
In this paper, we revisit the problem of signal detection in multipath environments. Existing results implicitly assume a rich multipath environment. Our work is motivated by physical arguments and recent experimental results that suggest physical channels encountered in practice exhibit a sparse structure, especially at high signal space dimension (i ...

Spectrogram analysis of multipath fading channels

2015 IEEE 26th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), 2015
The analysis of the Doppler power spectral density (PSD) of measured and simulated data is an important topic in the area of mobile radio channel modelling. In this paper, we estimate the Doppler PSD of multipath fading channels by using the concept of the spectrogram.

On OFDM Ranging Accuracy in Multipath Channels

IEEE Systems Journal, 2014
Wireless networks with ranging and localization capabilities enable new applications. The performance of wireless ranging depends on both the transmission technique and the propagation channel. Understanding such dependence is crucial to the design of high-accuracy ranging algorithms.
