Intrinsic indicator of photodamage during label-free multiphoton microscopy of cells and tissues.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Multiphoton imaging has evolved as an indispensable tool in cell biology and holds prospects for clinical applications. When addressing endogenous signals such as coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) or second harmonic generation, it requires ...

Subcellular analysis of blood-brain barrier function by micro-impalement of vessels in acute brain slices

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
The blood-brain barrier (BBB) tightly and dynamically regulates exchange with the brain. Here, the authors report a brain slice approach to study the native BBB in a highly controlled manner by combining intravascular perfusion and multiphoton microscopy.

3D‐Nanoprinted Fluidically Steerable Soft Robotic Microcatheters

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces a ∼3‐French (1 mm‐in‐diameter) soft robotic microcatheter fabricated by means of two‐photon direct laser writing. The 3D‐printed microcatheter enables remote, on‐demand steering via microfluidic actuation for guidewire‐free navigation of vascular networks as well as microcatheter‐mediated delivery of fluidic payloads to target ...

Measurements of multiphoton action cross sections for multiphoton microscopy

open access: yesBiomedical Optics Express, 2014
We report quantitative measurements of two-, three-, and four-photon excitation action cross sections of several commonly used fluorophores and fluorescent proteins at three different excitation wavelengths of 800 nm, 1300 nm, and 1680 nm. The measured cross section values are consistent with simple quantum mechanic estimations.

Mitochondria and Neuromast Tagging With Fluorescent Gallium‐Triapine Analogues: In Cellulo MP FLIM and Zebrafish Live Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorescent BODIPY‐conjugated thiosemicarbazone ligands and their Ga(III), In(III), and Fe(III) complexes, inspired by Triapine, are developed as theranostic agents. Multiphoton FLIM and confocal microscopy in cancer cells and zebrafish reveal real‐time uptake, mitochondrial localisation, and whilst spectroscopic assays indicated preserved complex ...

Advances in imaging of new targets for pharmacological intervention in stroke: real-time tracking of T-cells in the ischaemic brain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background and purpose: T‐cells may play a role in the evolution of ischaemic damage and repair, but the ability to image these cells in the living brain after a stroke has been limited.

Extreme Polaritonic Interactions in a Room‐Temperature Designable Sub‐Nanocavity Quantum Electrodynamic Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nanoparticle‐cluster‐on‐mirror (NPcoM) serves as a functionally deterministic sub‐nanocavity that emulates picocavities, enabling extreme light–matter interactions and polaritonic phenomena. ABSTRACT Pushing nanoscale optical confinement to its ultimate limits defines the regime of nano‐cavity quantum electrodynamics (nano‐cQED), where light‐matter ...

Challenges and Prospects of Using Novel Nonlinear Effects in Multimode Optical Fibers for Multiphoton Endomicroscopy

open access: yesDiagnostics
Multiphoton endomicroscopy (MPEM) has recently become a key development in optical biomedical diagnostics, providing histologically relevant in vivo images that are eliminating both the need for tissue damage during biopsy sampling and the need for dye ...
