Seventy-five cases of multiple primary lung cancers, representing 3.78% of a series of 1980 consecutively resected tumors, were divided into 24 synchronous and 51 metachronous cancers, according to the criteria of Martini and Melamed. They all concerned tobacco-smoking men.

Surgical Treatment of Multiple Primary Lung Cancers
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 1989Multiple primary lung cancers are now being recognized more frequently. Out of 1004 patients with a resected lung cancer, 32 (3.2%) presented a second primary and two of them a third primary lung cancer. A synchronous (S) primary was present in 7 and a metachronous (M) primary was present in 25. The histology was different in 1/7 with a S.

[Multiple primary lung cancer].
Zhonghua zhong liu za zhi [Chinese journal of oncology], 1987From November 1957 to June 1984, 30 patients with multiple primary lung cancer were diagnosed, basing on clinical features, diagnostic means, histologic type, treatment and prognosis. Out of 3,815 cases of resected primary lung cancer, the incidence of multiple primary cancer was 0.8%. There were 10 synchronous and 20 metachronous cases.

Multiple primary lung cancer: Updates and perspectives
International Journal of CancerAbstractManagement of multiple primary lung cancer (MPLC) remains challenging, partly due to its increasing incidence, especially with the significant rise in cases of multiple lung nodules caused by low‐dose computed tomography screening. Moreover, the indefinite pathogenesis, diagnostic criteria, and treatment selection add to the complexity.

[Multiple primary cancer in 1 lung].
Voprosy onkologii, 1985The experience gained in the treatment of 29 cases of primary multiple carcinomas of one lung (synchronous--20 and metachronous--9) was analysed. Criteria for diagnosis of primary multiple neoplasms as well as choice of treatment are discussed. Surgical excision of both tumors was performed in 27 cases (synchronous--19 and metachronous--8).

Multiple primary cancers of the lung, esophagus, and other sites
Cancer, 1977Years ago, when a solitary lung shadow was found with a known cancer elsewhere, it was presumed to be a metastasis and as such, the visible representative of many far-flung metastases not readily observable; hence there seemed to be little point in aggressive action.

[Multiple primary cancer of the lung and larynx].
Voprosy onkologii, 1986An experience of treatment of 43 cases of primary multiple cancer of the lung and larynx (synchronous--9, metachronous--31 and metachrono-synchronous--3) is discussed. Patients with lung and laryngeal cancer should undergo thorough examination. Primary multiple malignancies of the said organs make the case for surgery.
