Multiple Independent Loci at Chromosome 15q25.1 Affect Smoking Quantity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Recently, genetic association findings for nicotine dependence, smoking behavior, and smoking-related diseases converged to implicate the chromosome 15q25.1 region, which includes the CHRNA5-CHRNA3-CHRNB4 cholinergic nicotinic receptor subunit genes.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Selection of eligible participants for screening for lung cancer using primary care data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Lung cancer screening is effective if offered to people at increased risk of the disease. Currently, direct contact with potential participants is required for evaluating risk.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Blueprint Of Services For Lung Cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Primary lung cancer is the commonest malignant disease in the developed world, and is the most prevalent form of cancer among men over 65 years. It continues to rise in those aged over 75 years. Mortality from lung cancer is increasing in women.

Patient with recurrent paratesticular malignant mesothelioma and multiple primary neoplasms [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Men's Health
Paratesticular malignant mesothelioma (MM) is a rare tumor frequently associated with asbestos exposure. Therefore, we present an even rarer case of a 78-year-old male patient diagnosed with multiple primary neoplasms, including prostate cancer, lung ...

Small nodules (≤ 6 mm in diameter) of multiple primary lung cancers: prevalence and management

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2022
Background Synchronous multiple primary lung cancers associated with small non-dominant nodules are commonly encountered. However, the incidence, follow-up, and treatment of small non-dominant tumors have been but little studied.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

The genomic and transcriptome characteristics of lung adenocarcinoma patients with previous breast cancer

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2022
Background Breast cancer and lung cancer are the top two malignancies in the female population and the number of patients with breast cancer and subsequent primary lung cancer has increased significantly in recent years.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.
