Real Time Dual-Channel Multiplex SERS Ultradetection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) can be combined with microfluidics for rapid multiplex analyte screening. Through combination of the high intensity and complex signals provided by SERS with the flow characteristics of microfluidic channels, we ...

A Parylene Real Time PCR Microdevice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a powerful biochemical assay that is used in virtually all biochemical labs. By specifically amplifying a small sample of DNA, this technique is useful in the fields of paternity testing, forensics, and virus ...

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Preoperative circulating tumor cells integrated with imaging analysis for prognostic evaluation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...

Detection of Norovirus genogroup I and II by multiplex real-time RT- PCR using a 3'-minor groove binder-DNA probe

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2006
Background Due to an increasing number of norovirus infections in the last years rapid, specific, and sensitive diagnostic tools are needed. Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reactions (RT-PCR) have become the methods of choice.

Predictive and prognostic biomarkers of Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin therapy failure in bladder cancer patients: A systematic review

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
High‐risk bladder cancer is typically treated with Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG), but 30–40% of patients relapse. No FDA‐ or CE‐approved biomarkers currently predict or prognosticate BCG failure. We systematically reviewed the literature and identified 72 eligible studies, revealing several promising biomarkers associated with BCG treatment response ...

SeekTB, a Two-Stage Multiplex Real-Time-PCR-Based Method for Differentiation of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex

open access: yes, 2012
Tuberculosis (TB) in humans is caused by members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTC). The accurate identification of the MTC member causing human infection is important because the treatment of TB caused by some MTC members requires an ...

Bridging the gap: a genetically validated avian chorioallantoic membrane platform for investigation of spontaneous circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established the avian chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay as a scalable in vivo model for studying circulating tumor cells (CTCs). Human gastrointestinal tumors spontaneously released genetically validated CTCs that were detected across multiple platforms, demonstrating that the CAM model provides an accessible tool for investigating early cancer ...
