Background Cell division (mitosis) results in the equal segregation of chromosomes between two daughter cells. The mitotic spindle plays a pivotal role in chromosome alignment and segregation during metaphase and anaphase. Structural or functional errors

Automated three-dimensional single cell phenotyping of spindle dynamics, cell shape, and volume [PDF]
We present feature finding and tracking algorithms in 3D in living cells, and demonstrate their utility to measure metrics important in cell biological processes. We developed a computational imaging hybrid approach that combines automated three-dimensional tracking of point-like features with surface determination from which cell (or nuclear) volume ...

Improved Multipolar Poincaré-Hardy inequalities on Cartan-Hadamard Manifolds [PDF]
We prove a family of improved multipolar Poincar\'e-Hardy inequalities on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds. For suitable configurations of poles, these inequalities yield an improved multipolar Hardy inequality and an improved multipolar Poincar\'e inequality such that the critical unipolar singular mass is reached at any pole.

Dynamic stability of spindles controlled by molecular motor kinetics [PDF]
We analyze the role of the force-dependent kinetics of motor proteins in the stability of antiparallel arrays of polar filaments, such as those in the mitotic spindle. We determine the possible stable structures and show that there exists an instability associated to the collective behavior of motors that leads to the collapse of the spindle.

Microtubule Dynamics and Oscillating State for Mitotic Spindle [PDF]
We present a physical mechanism that can cause the mitotic spindle to oscillate. The driving force for this mechanism emerges from the polymerization of astral microtubules interacting with the cell cortex. We show that Brownian ratchet model for growing microtubules reaching the cell cortex, mediate an effective mass to the spindle body and therefore ...

Delaying mitotic cell cycle progression has been proposed as a strategy to potentiate the effects of anti-mitotic anti-cancer drugs that induce multipolar mitotic spindles. Toward this end, we have performed an in silico docking screen targeting anaphase-

A Clinical Overview of Centrosome Amplification in Human Cancers
The turn of the 21st century had witnessed a surge of interest in the centrosome and its causal relation to human cancer development - a postulate that has existed for almost a century.
