Short exposure to paclitaxel induces multipolar spindle formation and aneuploidy through promotion of acentrosomal pole assembly

Science China Life Sciences, 2010
Paclitaxel is a widely used microtubule drug and cancer medicine. Here we report that by short exposure to paclitaxel at a low dose, multipolar spindles were induced in mitotic cells without centrosome amplification. Both TPX2 depletion and Aurora-A overexpression antagonized the multipolarity.

Abstract 1849: Determining the molecular requirements for paclitaxel-induced spindle multipolarity

Cancer Research, 2018
Abstract Paclitaxel (TaxolTM) and other microtubule poisons are standard chemotherapy agents used in the treatment of breast cancer. However, only a subset of patients experience positive therapeutic effects from these drugs, underscoring the importance of further mechanistic study.

Induction of multipolar spindle in Allium sativum.

Cytobios, 1979
The effect of the polyene antifungal antibiotic aureofungin on the chromosomes of Allium sativum was examined. Mitotic studies showed chromosomal abnormalities of metaphase and anaphase. Besides these anomalies, the alteration of the spindle, i.e. tri- to multipolar condition, was also observed in treatment with 100 microgram treatment for 24 h, and ...

Abstract 1638: Regulation of spindle pole integrity by the MASTL-ENSA-aurora a pathway during mitosis

Cancer Research
The preservation of spindle pole integrity is crucial for proper spindle assembly and chromosome segregation in mitosis, yet the precise mechanisms governing spindle pole integrity remain elusive.
