Beyond the Larynx: New Insights Into Upper Airway Responses to Mechanical Insufflation–Exsufflation

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2026.
Upper airway responses to mechanical insufflation–exsufflation extend beyond the larynx and are strongly influenced by device settings and cervical posture. Transnasal flexible laryngoscopy and videofluoroscopy revealed that lower inspiratory flow and shorter expiratory time preserved airway patency and minimized oesophageal insufflation in bulbar ALS.

An investigation of the functional significance of the pyramidalis muscle using shear wave elastography

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 249, Issue 5, Page 1130-1137, November 2026.
The pyramidalis (Py) is a small triangular‐shaped anterior abdominal wall muscle, the function of which remains uncertain. We used shear wave elastography to test the hypothesis that Py contributes to stiffness of the linea alba. Our results indicate that Py contraction results in a significant increase in LA stiffness, supporting the previously ...

Concurrent Long Thoracic and Lateral Cutaneous Intercostal Nerve Entrapment After Chest Tube Thoracostomy Causing Scapular Winging and Chest Wall Pain: Diagnosis With Ultrasound and Treatment With Hydrodissection

open access: yesPain Practice, Volume 26, Issue 8, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Chest tube thoracostomy may cause iatrogenic nerve injury, resulting in persistent pain and functional impairment. Long thoracic nerve (LTN) palsy after chest tube placement has been described, but concurrent involvement of the LTN and the lateral cutaneous branch of an intercostal nerve (LCIN) appears to be rarely reported.

Ets2 Is an Activity‐Dependent Transcriptional Regulator of a Fast‐Twitch Muscle Program

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 20, 31 October 2026.
Ets2 is a transcription factor rapidly (24 h) upregulated in skeletal muscle by fast 150 Hz, but not slow 20 Hz, stimulation patterns. Ets2 selectively translocates to nuclei of slow soleus muscle when stimulated by fast‐patterned, but not slow‐patterned, activity. Ets2 binds to a consensus DNA sequence in the troponin I fast intronic enhancer (TnIFIRE)

Muscle Denervation and Nerve Entrapment Syndromes

open access: yesSeminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology, 2010
Nerve entrapment and muscle denervation syndromes are often hard to diagnose, presenting as pain or unusual weakness. In addition many of the clinically named syndromes are poorly defined and understood. An understanding of the clinical signs, the normal and variant anatomy, and the often variable relationship between the imaging findings and the ...
