Effectiveness of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Musculoskeletal Pain Syndromes: A Systematic Review

open access: yesMuscles
Background: Musculoskeletal pain syndromes (MPSs) represent a major cause of disability and reduced quality of life, and conventional therapeutic approaches often provide only partial or temporary relief. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) delivered as 100%

Muscle Development: Making Drosophila muscle [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 1995
Analysis of flies with mutations in the gene encoding the D-mef2 transcription factor identifies it as a controller of differentiation in multiple muscle cell types; it is the first such gene to be described.

The conserved transmembrane proteoglycan Perdido/Kon-tiki is essential for myofibrillogenesis and sarcomeric structure in Drosophila

open access: yes, 2014
M.B. was funded by a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award to P. Lawrence (WT096645MA).Muscle differentiation requires the assembly of high-order structures called myofibrils, composed of sarcomeres.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Comparing the Force–Time Characteristics Between Countermovement and Assisted Countermovement Jump with Different Landing Strategies

open access: yesMuscles
Researchers comparing countermovement (CMJ) and assisted countermovement (ACMJ) jumps reported conflicting findings on the landing impact force (LIF). This was likely due to differences in the landing strategies used.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

The Effect of Neck-Specific Exercise with or Without a Behavioral Approach in Chronic Whiplash-Associated Disorders: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesMuscles
Chronic whiplash-associated disorders describe a cluster of symptoms that result from a sudden neck acceleration/deceleration movement, including pain, musculoskeletal and neurological signs, inducing functional disability.

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Validation of 3D spino-pelvic muscle reconstructions based on dedicated MRI sequences for fat-water quantification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Objectives: To evaluate a protocol, including MRI acquisition with dedicated sequences for fat-water quantification and semi-automatic segmentation, for 3D geometry measurement and fat infiltration of key muscles of the spino-pelvic complex.
