Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.

The Effects of Blood Flow Restriction Exercise on Muscle–Brain Crosstalk: A Systematic Review

open access: yesMuscles
Blood flow restriction exercise (BFRE), which partially restricts arterial inflow and occludes venous outflow to the limbs, has gained attention for its potential to elevate serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a key mediator in the muscle ...

Periodic and Chaotic Flapping of Insectile Wings

open access: yes, 2015
Insects use flight muscles attached at the base of the wings to produce impressive wing flapping frequencies. The maximum power output of these flight muscles is insufficient to maintain such wing oscillations unless there is good elastic storage of ...

Spontaneous physical activity down-regulates Pax7 in cancer cachexia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Emerging evidence suggests that the muscle microenvironment plays a prominent role in cancer cachexia. We recently showed that NF-kB - induced Pax7 overexpression impairs the myogenic potential of muscle precursors in cachectic mice, suggesting that ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Effects of a Combined Plyometric and Resistance Training Programme on Adolescent Rugby Union Players

open access: yesMuscles
Background: Previous work has found that combining plyometric and resistance training in a single session can be effective in improving maximum strength (muscle contraction ability), vertical jumping, and sprint acceleration performance in young soccer ...

Flexibility in the Patterning and Control of Axial Locomotor Networks in Lamprey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In lower vertebrates, locomotor burst generators for axial muscles generally produce unitary bursts that alternate between the two sides of the body. In lamprey, a lower vertebrate, locomotor activity in the axial ventral roots of the isolated spinal ...

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

Effectiveness of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Musculoskeletal Pain Syndromes: A Systematic Review

open access: yesMuscles
Background: Musculoskeletal pain syndromes (MPSs) represent a major cause of disability and reduced quality of life, and conventional therapeutic approaches often provide only partial or temporary relief. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) delivered as 100%
