Carcinogenic and mutagenic agents in the workplace, Poland, 2011–2012

open access: yesMedycyna Pracy, 2015
Background: The objective of the study was the analysis of structure of carcinogenic or mutagenic chemical substances and dusts occurring in Polish enterprises, 2011–2012, including the number of exposed employees reported to the “Central register of ...

Detection of carcinogens as mutagens: bacterial tester strains with R factor plasmids.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1975
We described previously a simple test on petri plates for detecting chemical carcinogens as mutagens, using an especially sensitive set of bacterial strains to detect mutagenic acitivty and a mammalian liver extract for carcinogen activity. We now extend

Effect of induced mutagenesis in M1 and M2 generations of cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.)

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2023
Cumin is an important spice that has been used for centuries in various cuisines around the world. Two cumin varieties (GC 3 and GC 4) were subjected to mutation to understand macromutational modifications.

HARMLESS Early Warning System for Advanced Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
The HARMLESS Early Warning System tackles Advanced Materials (AdMa) risk governance by providing a framework, organised in two tiers, underpinned with methods/tools to support risk assessors in the pre‐assessment preceding risk assessment. It allows for initial screening to identify AdMa with concerns considering exposure, hazards, sustainability and ...

In-Host Flat-like Quasispecies: Characterization Methods and Clinical Implications

open access: yesMicroorganisms
The repeated failure to treat patients chronically infected with hepatitis E (HEV) and C (HCV) viruses, despite the absence of resistance-associated substitutions (RAS), particularly in response to prolonged treatments with the mutagenic agents of HEV ...

POLE Deficiency Exacerbates Diesel Engine Exhaust‐Induced Genomic Instability and Malignant Transformation of Bronchial Epithelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes a diesel engine exhaust (DEE)‐induced malignant transformation model in bronchial epithelial cells. Whole genome sequencing(WGS) and RNA‐seq reveal DEE‐induced mutational signatures and gene expression profiles. Mechanistically, DEEaffect polymerase epsilon (POLE) and mismatch repair, driving genomic instability and promoting ...

A new Salmonella tester strain (TA102) with A X T base pairs at the site of mutation detects oxidative mutagens.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1982
A new tester strain, TA102, is described as an addition to the set of strains for the Salmonella/microsome mutagenicity test. This strain contains A X T base pairs at the site of the mutation (determined by DNA sequence analysis) in contrast to the other

Dietary meat mutagens intake and cancer risk: A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
BackgroundClinical and preclinical studies suggested that certain mutagens occurring as a reaction of creatine, amino acids, and sugar during the high temperature of cooking meat are involved in the pathogenesis of human cancer.

Mitochondria‐Targeting Abasic Site‐Reactive Probe (mTAP) Enables the Manipulation of Mitochondrial DNA Levels

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) encodes essential genes for mitochondrial and cellular functions and acts as a cell signaling molecule in innate immune and inflammatory responses. Defects in mtDNA are implicated in a range of mitochondrial disorders and human diseases. Currently, no chemical strategy exists to prevent mtDNA loss under genotoxic stress.
