Mycovirus Diversity and Evolution Revealed/Inferred from Recent Studies

Annual Review of Phytopathology, 2022
High-throughput virome analyses with various fungi, from cultured or uncultured sources, have led to the discovery of diverse viruses with unique genome structures and even neo-lifestyles. Examples in the former category include splipalmiviruses and ambiviruses.

A novel double-stranded RNA mycovirus that infects Macrophomina phaseolina

Archives of Virology, 2019
Macrophomina phaseolina is a pathogenic fungus of the family Botryosphaeriaceae that causes stem rot or leaf blight in many economically important plants. Mycoviruses exist widely in fungi, but there are only a limited number of reports on mycovirus infection in M. phaseolina. A novel dsRNA virus, tentatively named "Macrophomina phaseolina fusagravirus

Double-stranded RNA mycovirus in Periconia circinata

Physiological Plant Pathology, 1974
Abstract Virus-like particles (VLPs) were isolated from some pathogenic strains of the fungus Periconia circinata , which produces host-specific toxins and causes root rot of susceptible sorghum cultivars. The VLPs were polyhedral, 32 nm in diameter, had a typical nucleo-protein absorption spectrum and sedimented at rates of approximately 66, 140 ...

A strain of mycovirus AaVV1 mediates hypovirulence of Alternaria species

Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology
The genus Alternaria comprises a wide range of ubiquitous plant pathogens that affect various host plants. Certain mycoviruses can induce changes in the biological characteristics and virulence of host fungi, offering potential for biocontrol in managing fungal plant diseases. Here, we identified a mycovirus with a high degree of homology to Alternaria

Mycovirus: Biocontrol agent against S. sclerotiorum of Rapeseed

Phytopathogenomics and Disease Control., 2023
Plant disease control is one of the essential aspects of food production Use of pesticide causes severe damage to our environment and have terrible effects on human health. It has been observed that the abundance use of pesticides also disturbs natural populations of various beneficial insects.

Molecular characterization of a novel mycovirus from Curvularia lunata in China

Archives of Virology
A novel mycovirus was identified in Curvularia lunata in China using high-throughput sequencing and RT-PCR, and the virus was named "Curvularia lunata RNA virus 1" (ClRV1). The genome of ClRV1 consists of 3,742 nucleotides and contains two open reading frames (ORFs).

Differenty approches to discover mycovirus associated to marine organism

2018
Here we describe the protocols to characterize the virome associated to fungi isolated from marine organ-isms assessed on the seagrass Posidonia occanica and on the marine animal Holothuria poli. We provide detailed protocols for fungal isolation, fungal growth, and total RNA extraction.
