Therapeutic Myeloperoxidase Inhibition Attenuates Neutrophil Activation, ANCA-Mediated Endothelial Damage, and Crescentic GN.

open access: yesJournal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2019
BACKGROUND Myeloperoxidase released after neutrophil and monocyte activation can generate reactive oxygen species, leading to host tissue damage. Extracellular glomerular myeloperoxidase deposition, seen in ANCA-associated vasculitis, may enhance ...

Anti-myeloperoxidase autoantibodies react with native but not denatured myeloperoxidase

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Immunology, 1992
SUMMARY We wondered whether anti-myeloperoxidase (MPO) autoantibodies (MPO-ANCA) found in patients with systemic vasculitis react with a conformational epitope or epitopes on the MPO molecule. Sera from 15 human MPO-ANCA, and a polyclonal and a monoclonal anti-MPO antibodies were reacted with MPO in native and denatured states. Human MPO-

Endoglin mediates the tumor‐ and metastasis‐promoting traits of stromal myofibroblasts in human breast carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Carcinoma‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in tumors influence cancer progression. We identified endoglin (ENG) as a key factor in TGF‐β signaling in myofibroblastic CAFs (myCAFs), linked to poor breast cancer outcomes. Inhibiting ENG on myCAFs suppressed the TGF‐β‐Smad2/3 pathway, reducing primary tumor growth and metastasis.

Antioxidant Strategies to Modulate NETosis and the Release of Neutrophil Extracellular Traps during Chronic Inflammation

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2023
Extracellular traps are released by neutrophils and other immune cells as part of the innate immune response to combat pathogens. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) consist of a mesh of DNA and histone proteins decorated with various anti-microbial ...

Engineering Topographical Cues to Enhance Neural Regeneration in Spinal Cord Injury: Overcoming Challenges and Advancing Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) poses significant challenges for regeneration due to a series of secondary injury mechanisms. How to use biomaterial approach to target the failed regeneration after SCI remains a critical challenge. This review systematically evaluates current strategies to optimize biomaterial topographies for neurite outgrowth, axonal ...

Gastroprotective effects of diosgenin against HCl/ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury through suppression of NF-κβ and myeloperoxidase activities

open access: yesOpen Life Sciences, 2021
Gastric mucosal injury is caused by an imbalance between the mucosal defense and gastro-irritants, leading to gastroenteritis. Diosgenin is a steroidal sapogenin found in the wild Yam plant that has been reported with several pharmacological properties ...
