Synchronous force and Ca2+ measurements for repeated characterization of excitation-contraction coupling in human myocardium

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Dysfunctional Ca2+ signaling affects the myocardial systole and diastole, may trigger arrhythmia and cause transcriptomic and proteomic modifications in heart failure.

Myocardial Oxygen Consumption as Influenced by Isotonic Contractions.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1962
SummaryOxygen consumption of non-stimulated trabeculae carneae, which were maintained at various resting tensions, was not increased when they were stimulated to contract isotonically at a frequency of one per second. The data further indicate that the aerobic metabolism of heart muscle was uninfluenced by resting tensions comparable to those in vivo.

Investigating the protective role of the natural hormone Melatonin, in reducing drug-induced cardiotoxicity in the therapy of chronic diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Heart failure (HF) is a highly complex disorder and a major end-point of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The pathogenesis of HF is mostly unresolved but involves interplay between cardiac structural and electrical remodelling, metabolic alterations, cell ...
