Myocardial fibrosis — a rare complication in patients with cystic fibrosis
European Journal of Pediatrics, 1993We report a 10-month-old male infant who was admitted to our hospital with a history of failure to thrive and bulky stools. On examination, he was dystrophic and had a protruding abdomen, but he was well oxygenated and his lungs were clear on auscultation.

Noncoding RNAs and myocardial fibrosis
Nature Reviews Cardiology, 2014Cardiac stress leads to remodelling of cardiac tissue, which often progresses to heart failure and death. Part of the remodelling process is the formation of fibrotic tissue, which is caused by exaggerated activity of cardiac fibroblasts leading to excessive extracellular matrix production within the myocardium.

Regulation of Myocardial Fibrosis by MicroRNAs
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 2010Interstitial and perivascular fibrosis is a hallmark of adverse cardiac remodeling in response to stress such as hypertension, valve disease, or myocardial infarction. The cross talk between fibroblasts and cardiomyocytes seems to be a major determinant of the hypertrophic response, and fibroblasts may prove to be essential regulators of cardiac ...
