Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

A giant and rapid myocardial remodeling due to fatal giant cell myocarditis: a case report

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
Giant cell myocarditis is a rare and rapidly progressive disease with a high mortality rate. We present the case of a 21-year-old male without a medical history who presented with a giant left ventricle (9.9 cm, EF:10%) and in a severe clinical state ...

High Inflammatory Burden: A Potential Cause of Myocardial Injury in Critically Ill Patients With COVID-19

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2020
Background: Myocardial injury is a severe complication of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and inflammation has been suggested as a potential cause of myocardial injury.

Perfusion-induced myocardial injury

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1968
Summary Isolated hypoxic perfusion of the heart and total body hypoxic perfusion were performed as preliminary assessment of parameters bearing on the development of a disposable coronary perfusate for use in intracardiac surgical procedures. Sudden, irreversible damage may result during isolated hypoxic perfusion which produces glycogen depletion and

Prognostic Implications of Sleep Architecture for Patients Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit With Status Epilepticus

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Status epilepticus (SE) is associated with significant mortality. Sleep architecture may reflect normal brain function. Impaired sleep architecture is associated with poorer outcomes in numerous conditions. Here we investigate the association of sleep architecture in continuous EEG (cEEG) with survival in SE.

Temporal Trends and Short‐ and Long‐Term Mortality of People With Acute Myocardial Infarction and Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We investigated whether a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects the quality of inpatient acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care and long‐term mortality post‐AMI. Methods We analyzed data from 784,091 adults, 6,047 with a diagnosis of RA, from England and Wales hospitalized with AMI between 2005 and 2019 from the Myocardial Ischaemia ...

Artemisinin relieves myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury via modulating miR-29b-3p and hemicentin 1

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
Objective: To explore the impact of artemisinin (ARS) on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury and the underlying mechanism. Methods: Myocardial I/R rat model and cell model were used in this study.

Confocal laser scanning microscope, raman microscopy and western blotting to evaluate inflammatory response after myocardial infarction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cardiac muscle necrosis is associated with inflammatory cascade that clears the infarct from dead cells and matrix debris, and then replaces the damaged tissue with scar, through three overlapping phases: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative phase

MYOCARDIAL INJURY IN ELECTRICAL BURNS [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Journal Armed Forces India, 2001
Electricity has been a boon to mankind. The technological advancements and increasing use of electricity have however resulted in many accidental injuries. Electrical injuries comprise 2–8% of all acute burn unit admissions and 15% of deaths [1].
