Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Specific Inhibition of CYP4A Alleviates Myocardial Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis Induced by Advanced Glycation End-Products

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
High exposure to advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) may induce cardiotoxicity. However, the effects and mechanisms remain to be further clarified.

HSP70 governs permeability and mechanotransduction in primary human endothelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HSP70 chemical inhibition reduces endothelial cell proliferation and increases permeability, the latter supported by normal interendothelial junctional protein distribution. HSP70 also plays a role in shear stress response, a hemodynamic force naturally present in blood vessels and correlated with vessel protection.

Gender characteristics of retinal parameters in patients with uncomplicated hypertension

open access: yesКардиоваскулярная терапия и профилактика, 2020
Aim. To establish gender specificities of retinal arteriolar and venular diameters, foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, subfoveal choroid thickness (SCT), and to determine their association with cardiovascular risk and prognosis in patients with ...

Graft preservation confers myocardial protection during coronary artery bypass grafting

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
BackgroundDuring on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (ONCAB), graft flushing for distal anastomoses testing also perfuses the downstream myocardium.

Thrombolytic proteins profiling: High‐throughput activity, selectivity, and resistance assays

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We present optimized biochemical protocols for evaluating thrombolytic proteins, enabling rapid and robust screening of enzymatic activity, inhibition resistance, and fibrin affinity, stimulation, and selectivity. The outcome translates to key clinical indicators such as biological half‐life and bleeding risk. These assays streamline the development of

Hibernating Myocardium [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation Research, 2002
In the early 1980s, Rahimtoola1 reviewed the results of coronary bypass surgery trials and identified patients with coronary artery disease and chronic left ventricular dysfunction that improved upon revascularization. He proposed the concept of hibernating myocardium as “prolonged ischemia… in which myocardial metabolism and ventricular function are ...

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...
