Myofibroblasts impair myocardial impulse propagation by heterocellular connexin43 gap-junctional coupling through micropores

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Aim: Composite population of myofibroblasts (MFs) within myocardial tissue is known to alter impulse propagation, leading to arrhythmias. However, it remains unclear whether and how MFs alter their propagation patterns when contacting cardiomyocytes (CMs)

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Effect on Wound Healing and Traumatic Brain Injuries

open access: yes, 2019
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a new form of treatment being used to heal and help improve symptoms of traumatic brain injuries, external wounds, and strokes. HBOT helps to completely saturate hemoglobin with oxygen, which then allows for a larger capacity

Inactivation Rap2a in Endothelial Cell Prevents Pulmonary Fibrosis by Regulating Immune Microenvironment Through MAP4K4‐VCAM1 Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified the endothelial RAP2A as a regulator of inflammatory endothelial activation in experimental lung fibrosis and suggest that targeting RAP2A‐mediated signaling may represent a potential strategy to modulate endothelial–immune crosstalk during fibrotic lung injury.

Endogenous Ceramide 24:1 Constrains Th17‐Driven Neutrophilic Inflammation by Antagonizing EP2 Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cer24:1 levels are reduced in neutrophilic asthma and inversely correlate with disease severity and airway neutrophilia. Restoring Cer24:1 suppresses pathogenic Th17 differentiation by engaging EP2 on CD4+ T cells, thereby dampening the JAK2–STAT3–RORγt axis and reducing IL‐17 production.

Suppression of Cornea Stromal Fibrosis by Vitamin D

open access: yesCells
Corneal fibrosis, a significant source of visual impairment, can result from keratocyte-to-myofibroblast transdifferentiation during wound healing. This study investigated the antifibrotic role of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25 Vit D) and the lesser ...

Bifunctional Artificial Enzymes‐Loaded Microgels With LOX‐ and CAT‐Like Activities for Metabolic Reprogramming and Scarless Wound Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bifunctional lactate oxidase‐like and catalase‐like artificial enzyme (Metazyme) is integrated into a rod‐shaped microgel (MetaRgel) to enable cascade lactate oxidation and oxygen regeneration. By reprogramming the wound metabolic microenvironment, MetaRgel alleviates excessive lactate accumulation, oxidative stress, hypoxia, and inflammation ...

Subretinal fibrosis secondary to neovascular age-related macular degeneration: mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Subretinal fibrosis is the end-stage sequelae of neovascular age-related macular degeneration. It causes local damage to photoreceptors, retinal pigment epithelium, and choroidal vessels, which leads to permanent central vision loss of patients with ...

Therapeutic Gases in Biomedicine: Updates on Nitric Oxide and Beyond

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Therapeutic gases, including NO, CO, H2S, H2, CO2, O2, and Xe, play vital roles in cellular signaling and repair. This review highlights the emerging carriers and delivery systems that enable controlled, localized gas release for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

A Soft Matrix Microenvironment Promotes Laterally Spreading Tumors via Oxidative Phosphorylation‐Dependent Cell Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laterally spreading tumors (LSTs) are precancerous colorectal lesions characterized by a flat morphology. This study reveals a mechanochemical pathway through which a soft matrix microenvironment diminishes spatial constraints in intestinal adenomas. This process promotes deficiencies in tight junction proteins, mediated by the mechanoreceptor ADORA2B ...

Induction of cellular autophagy impairs TGF-β1-mediated extracellular matrix deposition in primary human knee fibroblasts

open access: yesBone & Joint Research
Aims: To evaluate the role of autophagy in primary knee fibroblasts undergoing myofibroblast differentiation as an in vitro model of arthrofibrosis, a complication after total knee arthroplasty characterized by aberrant intra-articular scar tissue ...
