Diagnosing Kudoa Thyrsites (Myxozoa: Myxosporea) Infections in Fish

2002
The genus Kudoa (Myxozoa: Myxosporea) is comprised of at least 44 species that infect marine fishes worldwide (Moran et al. 1999b). Several Kudoa spp. are parasites of the musculature of commercially important fish species and are, therefore, of considerable concern to retailers of fish products.

Myxosporea: a new look at long-known parasites of fish

Parasitology Today, 1987
With the identification of Myxosporea as agents of swimbladder inflammation (SBI) in carp, and proliferative kidney disease (PKD) in salmonids, this group of over 1000 protistan species has been receiving renewed attention. Almost all species are parasites offish, and some can cause serious losses in commercial fish farms. Yet adequate control measures

Gram staining and lectin binding properties of Myxosporea and Sporozoea

Biotechnic & Histochemistry, 2001
The staining method developed by Christian Gram was introduced as a simple and highly selective tool for demonstrating myxosporean and coccidian sporogonic stages. When using standard blood staining procedures for those enigmatic parasites it is sometimes difficult to distinguish them from fish host tissue.

A guideline for the preparation of species descriptions in Myxosporea

Journal of Fish Diseases, 1989
Abstract. Guidelines for the preparation of a species description of myxosporean species are proposed. The establishment of a new myxosporean species has to be based on the morphology of both spores and vegetative stages as observed in a fresh state. All important diagnostic features are listed and diagrams for size measurements are presented.
