Persistent Tinnitus after Inhaled N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT)
Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, 2020This case report describes a 39-year-old male with remote history of polysubstance use disorder and depression who developed tinnitus after use of inhaled N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Although development of ear ringing was attributed to use on a single occasion, tinnitus occurred within the context of a larger self-experiment involving weekly ...

A Physician’s Attempt to Self-Medicate Bipolar Depression with N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT)
Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, 2017N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a psychoactive substance that has been gaining popularity in therapeutic and recreational use. This is a case of a physician who chronically took DMT augmented with phenelzine in an attempt to self-medicate refractory bipolar depression.

This study investigated the sense of familiarity attributed to N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) experiences. 227 naturalistic inhaled-DMT experiences reporting a sense of familiarity were included. No experiences referenced a previous DMT or psychedelic experience as the source of the familiarity.

Rats were tested for shock elicited fighting under various doses of N,N-dimethyltryptamine (0.12, 0.25, 0.50, 1.0, 4.0, 8.0 mg/kg) and 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (0.06, 0.12, 0.5, 2.0 mg/kg). Both drugs produced an inhibition of fighting at higher doses but no significant effects at lower doses.

The indole hallucinogenic drugs, N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT), had a different psychopharmacological profile from mescaline on rat shuttlebox avoidance; the differences were strain and/or baseline-dependent.

The present studies examined the role of the spinal cord and the brain in mediating the effects of the hallucinogens N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeODMT) on the acoustic startle response in the rat. Systemic administration of these agents, which distributes to both the brain and spinal cord, produced opposite ...

[Altered states of consciousness induced by N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT)].
Pharmakopsychiatrie, Neuro-Psychopharmakologie, 1977In a controlled study on 38 volunteers the effects of 250 mcg/kg N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) i.m. were assessed. 26 subjects received DMT and 12 placebo. The altered states of consciousness and the somatic changes were measured by several questionnaires administered after the experiment.

[Effects of N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) on tests of psychoticism (author's transl)].
Pharmakopsychiatrie, Neuro-Psychopharmakologie, 1977In a controlled study on 38 volunteers the effects of 250 micrograms/kg N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) i.m. on objective and performance tests measuring psychoticism according to Eysenck were assessed. The hypothesis was tested that subjects treated with DMT (N = 26) differ from those receiving placebo (N = 12) in the same way as endogenous psychotics ...

Renewed interest in the clinical use of psychedelic drugs acknowledges their therapeutic effectiveness. It has also provided a changing frame of reference for older psychedelic drug study data, especially regarding concentrations of N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) reported in rodent brains and recent discoveries in DMT receptor interactions in rat brain ...
