Enzymatic Formation of Udp-N-Acetylgalactosamine in Epiphysial-Plate Cartilage
Connective Tissue Research, 1978The activity of UDP-N-acetylglucosamine 4'-epimerase (EC 5.1.3.7) from newborn pig epiphysial-plate cartilage was investigated. The formation of radioactive UDP-N-acetylgalactosamine from UDP-N-acetyl[U-14C]-glucosamine was demonstrated by radioautography, after hydrolysis of UDP-derivatives and separation of the hexosamines by paper chromatography ...

Invasion potential and N-acetylgalactosamine expression in a human melanoma model
International Journal of Cancer, 1998Reactivity of the N-acetylgalactosamine-binding Helix pomatia agglutinin (HPA) in tumours has been associated with poor prognosis and metastasis development. In our LOX/FEMX-I human melanoma model, the binding of HPA correlates with experimental lung metastasis formation in athymic nude mice.

Isolation of N-acetylgalactosamine 4,6-disulfate from rat urine
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1974Abstract A sulfate ester of sugar has been isolated from rat urine. Evidence is presented that this is N -acetylgalactosamine 4,6-disulfate, the same compound which has been identified as a component of glycosaminoglycans and as a sugar linked to UDP.

Binding of N-acetylgalactosamine-specific lectins to spin-labeled galactosamine derivatives
Biochemistry, 1986Legume seed lectins specific for N-acetyl-alpha-D-galactosaminyl end groups from Amphicarpaea bracteata, lima bean, Griffonia simplicifolia, Dolichos biflorus, and soybean were compared with respect to binding of several spin-labeled derivatives of D-galactosamine by electron spin resonance and precipitin inhibition analysis. Spin-label II [methyl 2-[[(

Alteration of Plasma Galactose/N-acetylgalactosamine Level After Irradiation
2012Although glycoproteins possess a variety of functional and structural roles in intracellular and intercellular activities, the effect of ionizing radiation (IR) on glycosylation is largely unknown. To explore this effect, we established a sandwich assay in which PHA-L, a phytohaemagglutinin that agglutinates leukocytes, was used as a coating layer to ...
