Novel 1,3-dialkylperhydrobenzimidazolinium chloride salts were prepared as precursors of N-heterocyclic carbenes 3a-e by reacting N,N’-dialkylcyclohexandiamine, triethyl orthoformate and ammonium chloride.

Synthesis of Platinum(II) N-Heterocyclic Carbenes Based on Adenosine
Organometallic derivatization of nucleosides is a highly promising strategy for the improvement of the therapeutic profile of nucleosides. Herein, a methodology for the synthesis of metalated adenosine with a deprotected ribose moiety is described ...

The double role of ionic liquids in organic electrosynthesis: Precursors of N-heterocyclic carbenes and green solvents. Henry reaction [PDF]
N-heterocyclic carbenes, electrogenerated by cathodic reduction of imidazolium-based room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs), are stable bases able to catalyze the Henry reaction.

N-Heterocyclic carbene/Brønsted acid cooperative catalysis as a powerful tool in organic synthesis
The interplay between metals and N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) has provided a window of opportunities for the development of novel catalytic strategies within the past few years.

Electrochemical deposition of N-heterocyclic carbene monolayers on metal surfaces
N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have been widely used for the formation of monolayers but self-assembly methods come with drawbacks such as need for dry environment or using specifically-synthesized precursors.

Enantioselective [3+3] atroposelective annulation catalyzed by N-heterocyclic carbenes
Axially chiral compounds are commonly found in nature. Here, the authors show the highly enantioselective construction of axially chiral biaryls via an N-heterocyclic carbenes-catalyzed [3+3] atroposelective annulation of ynals with cyclic 1,3-diones.

Direct Synthesis of N‐Heterocyclic Carbene‐Stabilized Copper Nanoparticles from an N‐Heterocyclic Carbene–Borane [PDF]
AbstractN‐Heterocyclic carbene (NHC)‐stabilized copper nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized from an NHC–borane adduct and mesitylcopper(I) under thermal conditions (refluxing toluene for 2.5 h). NPs with a size distribution of 11.6±1.8 nm were obtained. The interaction between Cu NPs and NHC ligands was probed by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which

Sydnone Methides—A Forgotten Class of Mesoionic Compounds for the Generation of Anionic N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes [PDF]
Sydnone methides are described from which only one single example has been mentioned in the literature so far. Their deprotonation gave anions which can be formulated as π-electron rich anionic N-heterocyclic carbenes.
