Light activation of NADP malic enzyme in leaves of maize: marginal increase in activity, but marked change in regulatory properties of enzyme

open access: yes, 2003
This article reports the characteristics of light activation of NADP-malic enzyme (NADP-ME, EC 1.1.1.40) in leaf discs of maize (Zea mays cv. VMH 404) for the first time.

Characterization of cytosolic malic enzyme in human tumor cells

open access: yes, 1994
Cytosolic NADP+-dependent malic enzyme (ME) from human tumor cells was characterized in detail and compared to ME from normal human tissues produced in recombinant E. coli.

Modification of maize NADP-malic enzyme by Woodward's reagent 'K'.

open access: yesIndian journal of biochemistry & biophysics, 1998
Maize leaf NADP-malic enzyme was rapidly inactivated by micromolar concentrations of Woodward's reagent K (WRK). The inactivation followed pseudo-first order reaction kinetics. The order of reaction with respect to WRK was 1, suggesting that inactivation was a consequence of the modification of a single residue per active site.

Isolation and Characterization of Malic Enzyme from Ascaris suum [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
A procedure for the isolation of malic enzyme from muscle tissue of the roundworm Ascaris suum is described. The fractionation method yields relatively large quantities of the enzyme, with a specific activity of fifteen moles of malate converted to ...

Investigations about the role of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase and NADP+-malic enzyme in the filamentous phaeophyceaen alga Ectocarpus siliculosus

open access: yes, 2011

Phylogenetic analysis of NADP-malic enzyme and its expression in \u3ci\u3eArabidopsis thaliana\u3c/i\u3e guard cells

open access: yes, 2006
Decreased crop yield as a result of insufficient freshwater supply is a distressing problem in world agriculture today. Plants lose water via transpiration through pores located in the epidermis on the underside of the leaf referred to as stomata.

Structural Studies of R484W Single Nucleotide Polymorphism of Human Mitochondrial NAD(P)+-Dependent Malic Enzyme

open access: yes, 2021

Insights into the mechanism of abscisic acid-induced 2, 4-D tolerance in maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings: Study on the regulation of osmolytes, fluorescence, photosynthetic carbon reactions, and antioxidant metabolism

open access: yesPlant Stress
In this experiment, maize plants were subjected to different concentrations (0, 50, 100, and 250 µM) of the herbicide 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D), with some groups primed with abscisic acid (ABA) and others not.

YtsJ has the major physiological role of the four paralogous malic enzyme isoforms in Bacillus subtilis.

open access: yes, 2006
The Bacillus subtilis genome contains several sets of paralogs. An extreme case is the four putative malic enzyme genes maeA, malS, ytsJ, and mleA.
