This article reports an extraction-purification of napins from an industrial rapeseed meal and the assessment of their antimicrobial activity against Fusarium langsethiae. The best extraction conditions are observed at pH 2, 12% (w/w) of rapeseed meal after 15 min of extraction in water at room temperature.

The formation of electrostatic complexes involving a napin protein isolate (NPI) and carboxylated alginate (AL) and sulfated (κ-, ι-, λ-type carrageenan) (CG) polysaccharides was investigated at a biopolymer mixing ratio of 10:1 (NPI/polysaccharide) as a function of pH (4.0–12.0) using turbidity and electrophoretic mobility.

Effects of an antisense napin gene on seed storage compounds in transgenic Brassica napus seeds
Plant Molecular Biology, 1994To manipulate the quantity and quality of storage components in Brassica napus seeds, we have constructed an antisense gene for the storage protein napin. The antisense gene was driven by the 5'-flanking region of the B. napus napin gene to express antisense RNA in a seed-specific manner.

Brassica napus cv. Topas microspores can be diverted from pollen development toward haploid embryo formation in culture by subjecting them to a heat stress treatment. We show that this switch in developmental pathways is accompanied by the induction of high levels of napin seed storage protein gene expression.

S1 nuclease analysis and sub-family-specific oligonucleotide probes were used to characterize the expression during embryogenesis of the napin storage protein gene family of Brassica napus (oilseed rape). The expression of one sub-class represented by the napin gene gNa peaks and declines earlier than the other members of the family. This sub-class was

The Biosynthesis, Structure and Properties of Napin - the Storage Protein From Rape Seeds
Journal of Plant Physiology, 1999Summary A growing interest in the study of many aspects of seed storage proteins has been observed recently. Various functional and structural data on napin, the 2S storage protein of rape ( Brassica napus ), have been accumulated. The primary structures of genes, eDNA as well as amino acid sequences of napin have been solved. There are also NMR data

Isolation and nucleotide sequence of a genomic clone encoding a new Brassica napus napin gene
Plant Molecular Biology, 1990The nucleotide and aminoacid sequences of the Brassica napus napin gene, BngNAP1, are presented. The 5' and 3' untranslated sequences and significant features including start and stop codons, CAT and TATA boxes, alternating purine/pyrimidine stretches, direct and inverted repeats and potential polyadenylation recognition sequence are described.

Napin from mustard (Brassica juncea L.) is a seed storage protein consisting of two subunits linked through disulfide bonds and is predominantly helical in nature. Resistance to trypsin digestion and allergenicity limit its food applications. The role of disulfide linkages, electrostatic as well as hydrophobic interactions, in napin stability have been

Isolation of the mustard Napin protein and characterisation of its antifungal activity.
Proteins and peptides belonging to the plant immune system can possess natural antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. Due to their broad range of activity and stability, they represent promising novel alternatives to commonly used antifungal agents to fight the emergence of resistant strains.Mignone, Giulia +3 more
