Narrow-Linewidth Microlasers on Silicon

Frontiers in Optics 2007/Laser Science XXIII/Organic Materials and Devices for Displays and Energy Conversion, 2007
After reviewing several laser sources based on high-Q microtoroid lasers, the recent observation of fundamental linewidths as narrow as 4 Hz in microtoroid lasers will be described. Inverse-power (Schawlow-Townes) broadening is observed.

Near Infrared Ultra-Narrow-Linewidth Laser

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2020
We report on self-injection-locked near infrared laser technology using whisper-gallery-mode resonators. The laser linewidth is suppressed by 104 and has an instantaneous linewidth in the sub-10 Hertz range. The laser is used for generating stable reference light for atomic clocks.

Narrow-linewidth tunable ArF* excimer-laser source

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1981
The generation of narrow-linewidth tunable radiation from excimer lasers has been a topic of considerable investigation recently.1 Because of the short laser wavelengths generated, such sources are ideal tools for multiphoton spectroscopy in the VUV.2 Because conventional excimer lasers generally operate with broadband laser output and poor beam ...

Ultra-narrow-linewidth Brillouin/Erbium Fiber Laser

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2017
Ultra-narrow-linewidth lasers are of great interest in many applications, such as precise spectroscopy, optical communications, and sensors. Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS), as one of the main nonlinear effects in fibers, is capable of generating narrow-linewidth light emission. We establish a compact Brillouin/erbium fiber laser (BEFL) utilizing

Narrow-linewidth quantum cascade laser at 86  μm

Optics Letters, 2014
We report on a narrow-linewidth distributed-feedback quantum cascade laser at 8.6 μm that is optical-feedback locked to a high-finesse V-shaped cavity. The spectral purity of the quantum cascade laser is fully characterized using a high-sensitivity optical frequency discriminator, leading to a 1 ms linewidth of less than 4 kHz and a minimum laser ...

High power, narrow linewidth fiber amplifiers

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications/Coherent Optical Technologies and Applications, 2006
Amplification of narrow linewidth signals in optical fibers is limited by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). We discuss novel fiber designs that limit SBS allowing the amplification of narrow linewidth signals to kilowatt power levels.

Narrow-Linewidth Lasers on a Silicon Chip

2014
Diode-pumped distributed-feedback (DFB) channel waveguide lasers were demonstrated in Er3+-doped and Yb3+-doped Al2O3 on standard thermally ox-idized silicon substrates. Uniform surface-relief Bragg gratings were patterned by laser-interference lithography and etched into the SiO2 top cladding. The maxi-mum grating reflectivity exceeded 99%. Monolithic

High power, narrow linewidth fiber lasers

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
Single transverse mode fiber lasers have recently achieved output powers at the kilowatt level. These breakthroughs can be attributed to the maturation of high power diode pump technology at 980 nm and the use of large mode area (LMA) fibers. In the continous wave (cw) operation regime, LMA fibers, through their reduction of device length and increase ...

Narrow linewidth, tunable distributed feedback photodetector

Applied Physics Letters, 1996
We demonstrate a photodetector with a narrow spectral linewidth (approximately 2 Å) and a useful electrical-tuning range of 35 Å. The photodetector features a horizontal resonant cavity in which feedback is achieved using distributed feedback reflectors. The optical and electrical paths in this photodetector are orthogonal.

Narrow-linewidth external-cavity tunable lasers

10th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN 2011), 2011
This paper reports our recent work on narrow-linewidth tunable laser, which utilizes two etalons in the external cavity to obtain linewidth 60 dB and fiber-coupled output power > 20 mW. (2 pages)
