The antithrombotic activity of natural and synthetic coumarins

Fitoterapia, 2021
Thrombosis, which seriously endangers human health and life, is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Antithrombotic drugs can interfere with the occurrence and development of thrombotic diseases and play an important role in the treatment of thrombotic diseases.

Natural and synthetic coumarins as antileishmanial agents: A review

European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2020
The neglected tropical disease leishmaniasis is still a major public health problem that affects millions of people worldwide. Related to poor-living conditions, this vector-borne disease presents multiple clinical manifestations - from asymptomatic to systemic conditions.

Synthetic and Natural Coumarins as Antioxidants

Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2006
Coumarins, an old class of compounds, are naturally occurring benzopyrene derivatives. A lot of coumarins have been identified from natural sources, especially green plants. These natural compounds have served as valuable leads for further design and synthesis of more active analogs.

Natural oxyprenylated coumarins are modulators of melanogenesis

European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2018
Naturally occurring coumarins 7-isopentenyloxycoumarin, auraptene, and umbelliprenin are able to modulate the biosynthesis of melanin in murine Melan-a cells probably through the interaction with selected biological targets like estrogen receptor β and aryl hydrocarbon receptor.

Natural Coumarins as a Novel Class of Neuroprotective Agents

Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2009
Neurodegenerative disorders are a heterogeneous group of diseases and are among the most invaliding syndromes for humans. The aim of this manuscript is to review what has been reported so far in the literature about coumarins as a novel class of pharmacologically active compounds in chemoprevention and/or therapy of these diseases.

Progress in the Chemistry of Naturally Occurring Coumarins

2017
Coumarins are the largest group of 1-benzopyran derivatives found in plants. The initial member of this group of compounds, coumarin (2H-1-benzopyran-2-one), a fragrant colorless compound, was first isolated from the Tonka bean (Dipteryx odorata, family Fabaceae) in 1820. The name coumarin comes from a French term for the tonka bean, coumarou.

Naturally Occurring Coumarins

1952
It is striking that apart from coumarin, hydrocoumarin, and dicoumarol, all naturally occurring coumarins have an oxygen atom at the 7-position i. e. they can be regarded as derivatives of umbelliferone, which is one of the most widely distributed compounds of this class.

Synthesis of Analogues of Natural Coumarins and Coumarinolignans

Russian Journal of Bioorganic Chemistry, 2005
3-Aryl-4H-coumarins with the 1,3-benzodioxol, 1,4-benzodioxane, and 1,5-benzodioxepane moieties were synthesized by modified methods. The English version of the paper: Russian Journal of Bioorganic Chemistry, 2005, vol. 31, no. 3; see also http://www.maik.ru.

Synthetic and Natural Coumarins as Cytotoxic Agents

Current Medicinal Chemistry-Anti-Cancer Agents, 2005
Coumarins, an old class of compounds, are naturally occurring benzopyrene derivatives. A lot of coumarins have been identified from natural sources, especially green plants. The pharmacological and biochemical properties and therapeutic applications of simple coumarins depend upon the pattern of substitution.

The field ionization spectra of some natural coumarins

Biological Mass Spectrometry, 1974
The field ionization and electron impact mass spectra of eleven coumarins have been compared. In the field ion spectra the molecular ions were the base peaks and structurally diagnostic fragment ions formed by direct cleavage were present, whereas the molecular ions were weak in the electron impact spectra and fragment ions formed by rearrangement were
