How does a shorter supply chain affect pricing of fresh food? Evidence from a natural experiment

Food Policy, 2015
The market for fresh food is often characterized by a large number of intermediaries delivering the product from the farmer to the retailer. The existence of these intermediaries, especially the informal ones, is often claimed to introduce market frictions that push fresh food prices up.

Maternal effects on offspring Igs and egg size in relation to natural and experimentally improved food supply

Functional Ecology, 2008
1. Maternal effects have been suggested to function as a mechanism for transgenerational plasticity, in which the environment experienced by the mother is translated into the phenotype of the offspring. In birds and other oviparous vertebrates where early development is within the egg, mothers may be able to improve the viability prospects of their ...

Optimization of monitoring network system for Eco safety on Internet of Things platform and environmental food supply chain

Computer Communications, 2020
Food supply chain and Eco system security in developing nations depend to a limited extent on the practical utilization of common natural resources. Food and Eco system security is generally inspected through three measurement approaches, in particular ...

Accounting for uncertainty in eco-efficient agri-food supply chains: A case study for mushroom production planning

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2019
Due to the increasing awareness of climate change, depletion of natural resources, and increasing world population, companies in the agri-food sector need to redesign their existing supply chains and take into account both the economic and environmental ...

Forage Resources, Nutrition, and Food Supply of Free-Grazing Camels (Сamelus bactrianus) in a Pasture within the Natural Steppe Zone

Biology Bulletin, 2018
Abstract—This paper reports the results of investigation on the food of free-grazing Bactrian camels in a forb–grass steppe pasture, including anthropogenically disturbed areas with dominance of ruderal annuals. We identified the composition of consumed plants using a microhistological analysis of the feces; the digestibility coefficient based on inert

Agri-Food Supply Chain Development by Various Chain Leaders: Case Studies in Japan and New Concept of High Nature Value

2002
In this paper, firstly several different agri-food chain leaders are to be considered, such as aged and/or women farmers, supermarkets, consumers' cooperatives, and big general trade company. Secondly the high nature value of food is to be dealt with the matters Japanese consumers are concerned.

The natural regulation of buffalo populations in East Africa: The food supply as a regulating factor, and competition*

African Journal of Ecology, 1974
SummaryEvidence is presented to show that both the quality and quantity of food available to a buffalo population falls below the minimum maintenance requirements of that population at certain times of the year. In the Serengeti grasslands there was a shortage of the only good quality component, grass leaf, in the dry season, with the result that the ...

Natural toxicants in the food supply:In vitroinvestigation of the potential mechanism of action of the dietary flavonoid quercetin

International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, 1993
Quercetin, a natural flavonoid, is a well-known genotoxin, but its carcinogenicity is unclear. The objective of these studies was to investigate and compare the effects on glycolytic flux of quercetin and the known toxic xenobiotic phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) in a cell culture model. Rat kidney cells (NRK-49F) grown in culture were exposed to

Glutinous rice gel as all-natural ink supply for extrusion-based food 3D printing – the chemical basis of gel printability

Food Chemistry
In this study, four varieties of glutinous rice were screened out of 18 varieties as representative model inks. Gel prepared using variety WN9612 of high amylose content displayed high viscosity and large overall print deviation (OPD = 17.4 ± 0.4 %) due to difficulties in extrusion.
