Natural refrigerants for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems
Applied Thermal Engineering, 1997In the past, several natural working fluids were used in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. However, the appearance of CFCs caused a drastic reduction in the utilisation of those fluids. Understanding of the environmental damage of CFCs focused attention on alternative refrigerants. From these, the ones that have minimum (or nil) environmental

Selection of suitable natural refrigerants pairs for cascade refrigeration system
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2013This study presents thermodynamic analyses and optimization of a two-stage cascade system employing a choice of eight natural refrigerants leading to the most suitable refrigerants pair for wide ranges of operating temperatures; the optimal pair was based on best system performance (cooling coefficient of performance) as well as best volumetric cooling

Efficiency of Refrigeration Equipment on Natural Refrigerants
Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, 2020A comparative investigation of losses in refrigeration plants applied in the food industry was carried out using the natural refrigerants CO2 and refrigerant grade propane (R290) at two working temperature levels (evaporation temperature minus 35°С and minus 10°С) using entropic and statistical analysis methods.

Mechanical Engineering, 1998
This article explains that substances such as air, water, ammonia, hydrocarbons, and carbon dioxide may provide solutions to the problem of finding environmentally acceptable refrigerants. The search for new and environmentally benign refrigerants to replace the existing chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) has led to the ...

Performance Experiment of Natural Refrigerant Cascaded Refrigeration System
Advanced Materials Research, 2011In this paper, the performances of natural refrigerant R290/CO2 cascaded refrigeration system using R290 as high temperature cycle refrigerant and CO2 as low temperature cycle refrigerant were investigated experimentally. The test results show that both CO2 compressor and R290 compressor start up stably and present good running performance.

A Review Paper on Natural and Synthetic Refrigerants
International Journal of Innovative Research in Engineering & Management, 2022The Montreal Protocol (1987) prohibited halogenated hydrocarbons with a high ozone depletion potential (ODP) because of their harmful effects on the ozone layer, which protects the earth from UV radiation. The greenhouse gases (GHG) utilized in contemporary refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat-pumping systems are subject to a time-limited permit ...

Investigation on the fractional nature of a refrigeration evaporator
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2020Abstract The frequency response of an evaporator for commercial refrigeration is investigated to develop a control-oriented model which balances simplicity with accuracy. The dynamics of such devices is highly nonlinear; the response curve was experimentally identified around an operating point by recording the output of the system for several ...

Azeotropy in the natural and synthetic refrigerant mixtures
International Journal of Refrigeration, 2007Abstract A novel approach for the prediction of azeotrope formation in a mixture that does not require vapour–liquid equilibrium calculations is developed. The method employs neural networks and global phase diagram methodologies to correlate azeotropic data for binary mixtures based only on critical properties and acentric factor of the individual ...
