Brevetoxin versus Brevenal Modulation of Human Nav1 Channels

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2023
Brevetoxins (PbTx) and brevenal are marine ladder-frame polyethers. PbTx binds to and activates voltage-gated sodium (Nav) channels in native tissues, whereas brevenal antagonizes these actions.

Crystal structures of Ca2+–calmodulin bound to NaV C-terminal regions suggest role for EF-hand domain in binding and inactivation

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2019
Significance Calmodulin (CaM) is a Ca2+-sensing protein that endows several voltage-gated sodium (NaV) and calcium (CaV) channels with Ca2+-dependent inactivation (CDI).

Spatiotemporal Fire Patterns and Post‐fire Forest Change in Peru (2000–2021)

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fire is increasingly more frequent and severe in many tropical regions, leading to significant forest loss, diminished biodiversity, and reduced Nature's contributions to people (NCPs). In this study, we analyzed the spatiotemporal patterns of fire in Peru and its regions, focusing on: (1) burned area, (2) size, and (3) number of fires, using ...

Traditional Chinese Medicine as an Integrative Adjunct in Oncology Perioperative Practice: Analgesia, Immune Modulation, and Translational Challenges

open access: yesMedicine Bulletin, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), including herbal analgesic adjuvants and acupuncture‐based interventions, has gained increasing attention as an integrative strategy for perioperative pain management in oncology. Bioactive phytochemicals—such as terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, and polyphenols—exert multimodal pharmacological effects ...

Missense Variants in the A Isoform of FGF13 as a Novel Cause of Paroxysmal Dyskinesia

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Pathogenic variants within the unique N‐terminal inactivation particle of FGF13 isoform A (FGF13A) have so far been associated only with an X‐linked dominant epileptic encephalopathy (DEE). Objective The aim was to expand the clinical and molecular spectrum of FGF13A‐related disorder.
