The effects of NBPTS‐certified teachers on student achievement
Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, 2008AbstractIn this study, we consider the efficacy of a relatively new and widely accepted certification system for teachers established by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). We utilize an extensive database covering the universe of teachers and students in Florida for a four‐year span to determine the relationship between ...

The Cost-Effectiveness of NBPTS Teacher Certification
Evaluation Review, 2010A cost-effectiveness analysis of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) program suggests that Board certification is less cost-effective than a range of alternative approaches for raising student achievement, including comprehensive school reform, class size reduction, a 10% increase in per pupil expenditure, the use of value ...

Ridge‐Till Corn and Urea Hydrolysis Response to NBPT
Journal of Production Agriculture, 1997Ammonia volatilization from surface‐applied, urea‐based fertilizers can result in reduced fertilizer N availability to the crop, particularly in minimum tillage systems with substantial surface residue. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential for the urease inhibitor N‐(n‐butyl)thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) to minimize ammonia loss ...

Urease Inhibitor NBPT on Ammonia Volatilization and Crop Productivity: A Meta-Analysis
Agronomy Journal, 2017Core Ideas The volatilization losses averaged 31.0% of applied N for urea and 14.8% for NBPT‐treated urea. NBPT‐treated urea showed a potential yield increase of 5.3% for major crops. The effect of NBPT in reducing volatilization losses were reduced under high N rates.

A descriptive analysis of the distribution of NBPTS-certified teachers in North Carolina
Economics of Education Review, 2007Abstract In this paper, we use a unique data set that includes a panel of all teachers in North Carolina over a 4-year period (1996–1997 through 1999–2000) to describe the distribution of teachers certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) across classrooms, schools, and districts.

Communities of Practice and Discourse Communities: Negotiating Boundaries in NBPTS Certification
Teachers College Record: The Voice of Scholarship in Education, 2000Certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) offers experienced teachers opportunities through a written portfolio to “match” their practice to the Board's standards. In creating standards and requiring teachers to argue in writing that they have realized the standards in their teaching, the NBPTS may offer a ...

NH3Volatilization from Urea-NBPT in Eucalyptus
Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 2016ABSTRACTHigh losses of nitrogen (N) by volatilization of ammonia from urea applied in Eucalyptus are expected due to the influence of plant residues on the soil surface. The study evaluated the N losses by volatilization of ammonia from urea coated with Thiophosphate N-(n-butil) triamide (NBPT) applied in soil with eucalyptus residues in surface under ...

Ammonia Volatilization of Zinc Sulfate‐Coated and NBPT‐Treated Urea Fertilizers
Agronomy Journal, 2017Core Ideas Combining Zn sulfate‐coated urea with low percent NBPT improved ammonia volatilization control in low pH soil when compared to the recommended NBPT application rate. Combining Zn sulfate‐coated urea with boron compounds provided ammonia volatility control.

Corn Yield Response to the Urease Inhibitor NBPT: Five‐Year Summary
Journal of Production Agriculture, 1992Urease inhibitors are applied to reduce NH3 volatilization and immobilization losses from surface‐applied urea or urea‐NH4NO3 solutions (UAN). The urease inhibitor N‐(n‐butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) was evaluated in the USA in 78 trials conducted with corn (Zea mays L.) from 1984 to 1989. NBPT was applied with urea at rates of 0.25 to 1.0% (w/w)
