Dual versus single inhibitors: Which strategy best mitigates nitrogen losses in coarse‐textured soils? A laboratory evaluation

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 90, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
Abstract Enhanced efficiency fertilizers, including urease inhibitors (UIs), nitrification inhibitors (NIs), and dual inhibitors (DIs [UI + NI]), are widely used to reduce nitrogen (N) losses and improve crop nitrogen use efficiency (NUE). However, their relative effectiveness across multiple nitrogen loss pathways remains unclear.

Turnover of Urea in a Soil from the North China Plain as Affected by the Urease Inhibitor NBPT and Wheat Straw

open access: yes, 2020
In the North China Plain (NCP), urea is applied to predominantly high-pH soils and high gaseous losses of N are observed in the forms of ammonia (NH3) and nitrous oxide (N2O).

Recent Advances in Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Strategies for Sustainable Rice Production

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a vital food crop, but producing it releases significant quantities of methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O), which are both potent gases. Therefore, urgent action is needed to mitigate these emissions and make agriculture more sustainable and climate‐resilient.

Impacts of N-(n-Butyl)thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) on the Physicochemical Properties of MPI Dispersions: A Study on Micelle Integrity.

open access: yes
This study investigated the effects of the urease inhibitor N-(n-Butyl)thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) on milk protein isolate (MPI) dispersions. The addition of NBPT to MPI led to significant (p < 0.05) reductions in particle size (from 154 to 119nm) and

Effect of seed-placed urea fertilizer and N-(n-butyl)thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) on emergence and grain yield of barley

open access: yes, 1999
Seedling damage from excess seed-placed urea fertilizer can be a major problem in one-pass seeding and fertilizing systems. Field studies were conducted on a clay loam and a fine sandy loam soil over 3 yr to evaluate the impact of seed-placed urea N ...

Ammonia volatilisation from urease inhibitor-treated urea applied to sugarcane trash blankets Volatilização de amônia a partir de uréia tratada com inibidor de urease aplicada sobre palha de cana-de-açúcar

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2008
Legal restrictions from burning sugarcane prior to harvest are causing a sharp increase in acreage which is harvested as green cane. The presence of a thick sugarcane trash mulch left after harvest makes it difficult to incorporate fertilisers in the ...

Aromatic Self‐Assembled Monolayers Enhance Lifetime of Silver SERS Substrates and Provide their Chemical Functionalization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 23, December 8, 2025.
Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a highly attractive method combining unique specificity with great sensitivity. For protecting the silver‐based SERS substrates, aromatic self‐assembled monolayers consisting of biphenyl‐4‐thiol and 4′‐nitro‐4‐biphenylthiol molecules are deposited and characterized.

Spray nozzle type has a small and inconsistent effect on ammonia volatilization from surface‐applied urea ammonium‐nitrate

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 8, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Ammonia (NH3) volatilization reduces fertilizer use efficiency and increases environmental nitrogen (N) loss when urea ammonium‐nitrate (UAN) is surface‐applied. Volatilization is driven by localized pH increases resulting from the rapid hydrolysis of large quantities of urea.

Responses of ureolytic and nitrifying microbes to urease and nitrification inhibitors in selected agricultural soils in Victoria, Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
PurposeUrease inhibitors (UIs) such as N-(n-butyl)thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) and nitrification inhibitors (NIs) such as 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) have been reported to improve the efficiency of nitrogen (N) fertilizers.

脲酶/硝化抑制剂对沿淮平原水稻产量、氮肥利用率及稻田氮素的影响

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao, 2019
