Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Nonlinear Seismic Responses of Near-Fault Building Clusters Caused by the Fault Rupture
An integrated numerical method is proposed for analyzing the nonlinear seismic response of near-fault building clusters, comprising three algorithms: (1) a structural investigated lump algorithm for elastoplastic dynamic response of structure; (2) a ...

Deep test hole drilled near fault
In an effort to answer troublesome questions about stresses on the San Andreas fault, a team of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) researchers is compiling data from in situ measurements in the deepest hole ever drilled, for scientific purposes, on or near the San Andreas fault.Headed by Mark Zoback, the team recently finished drilling the 1‐km hole, made ...

Research on Near-Fault Problems in Earthquake Engineering
The state-of-the-art of near-fault problems in earthquake engineering is comprehensive reviewed. Strong ground motions in the near-fault region exhibit several new characteristics, which cause the attentions of both seismologists and engineers who zealously studied these ground motions during the last two deceases.

Incorporation of fault rock properties into production simulation models [PDF]
This thesis has two aims. First, to investigate the importance of incorporating the multiphase flow properties of faults into production simulation models.

Structural complexity is common at the terminations of earthquake surface ruptures; similar deformation may therefore be expected at the end zones of earthquake ruptures at depth.

Changes in hot spring temperature and hydrogeology of the Alpine Fault hanging wall, New Zealand, induced by distal South Island earthquakes [PDF]
Thermal springs in the Southern Alps, New Zealand, originate through penetration of fluids into a thermal anomaly generated by rapid uplift and exhumation on the Alpine Fault.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
