Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Making distance visible: Assembling nearness in an online distance learning programme

open access: yes, 2013
Online distance learners are in a particularly complex relationship with the educational institutions they belong to (Bayne, Gallagher, & Lamb, 2012). For part-time distance students, arrivals and departures can be multiple and invisible as students take

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Planetary radar [PDF]

open access: yes
The radar astronomy activities supported by the Deep Space Network are reported. The high power S- and X-band radar transmitters at the Goldstone 64 meter station were used for a radar probe of Mars during January, February, and March 1980, which was ...

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Near Ideals in Near Semigroups

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics, 2018
In this paper, we introduced the notion of near subsemigroups, near ideals, near biideals and homomorphisms of near semigroups on near approximation spaces. Then we give some properties of these near structures.

Minimal hermitian matrices with fixed entries outside the diagonal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We survey some results concerning the problem of finding the complex hermitian matrix or matrices of least supremum norm with variable diagonal. Some qualitative general results are given and more specific descriptions are shown for the 3 x 3 case.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Values in organic farming and their implications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Research in organic farming should involve reflections on the values and aims of organic farming, and on how these values and aims correspond to the choices and delimitations that are a necessary part of making 'objective' research. Value discussions and

Almost Somewhat Near Continuity and Near Regularity

open access: yesMoroccan Journal of Pure and Applied Analysis, 2020
Abstract The notions of almost somewhat near continuity of functions and near regularity of spaces are introduced. Some properties of almost somewhat nearly continuous functions and their connections are studied. At the end, it is shown that a one-to-one almost somewhat nearly continuous function f from a space X onto a space Y is ...
