Diagnostic Challenges, Prognostic Assessment, and Treatment Strategies in High-Grade Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology and Metabolism
High-grade differentiated thyroid carcinoma (HGDTC) is a recently codified entity in the 2022 World Health Organization Classification of Endocrine Tumors, defined by a mitotic count of ≥5 mitoses per 2 mm² and/or tumor necrosis in a carcinoma that ...

Occurrence of acute oesophageal necrosis (black oesophagus) in a single tertiary centre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Pathological Features of Breast Cancer seen in Northwestern Tanzania: A Nine Years Retrospective Study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Breast cancer is more common in Western Countries compared to African populations. However in African population, it appears that the disease tends to be more aggressive and occurring at a relatively young age at the time of presentation. The aim of this

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Phagocytosis of Necrotic Debris at Sites of Injury and Inflammation

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Clearance of cellular debris is required to maintain the homeostasis of multicellular organisms. It is intrinsic to processes such as tissue growth and remodeling, regeneration and resolution of injury and inflammation.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Assessment of interactions between defoliation and Phytophthora plurivora stem infections of birch seedlings

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle, 2018
Silver birch, (Betula pendula), is an important forest tree species in Poland used for afforestation in rural areas and planted in wet forest types to ameliorate excess water. Physiological stress may increase susceptibility of trees to disease and it is
