Representing explicit budburst and senescence processes for evergreen conifers in global models [PDF]

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Meteorology, 2019
Global ecosystem models lack an explicit representation of budburst and senescence for evergreen conifers despite their primordial role in the carbon cycle.

Effect of lime and urea on decomposition of senescent Corsican pine needles colonized by Lophodermium pinastri

Transactions of the British Mycological Society, 1978
Decomposition of senescent Corsican pine ( Pinus nigra var. maritima (Aiton) Melville) needles, colonized on the tree by Lophodermium pinastri (Schrad. ex Fr.) Chev. and treated in the litter with lime and urea, was followed for 1 year using a combination of mycological, chemical and histological techniques.

Lophodermium maccisp. nov., a new species on senesced foliage of five-needle pines

Mycologia, 2004
The new species Lophodermium macci is described. It is similar in its morphology, habitat, geographic range and ecology to L. pini-excelsae, L. staleyi and L. nitens and often is misidentified as L. pinastri on Pinus strobus in herbaria. A modified technique was used to extract DNA from minute ascomata on herbarium specimens, and new primers were made ...

Microscopic structure of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris (L.)) needles during ageing and autumnal senescence

Trees, 2007
Needle ageing and senescence were studied in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) trees growing in natural conditions with minimal anthropogenic influence. The four existing needle generations were analyzed by light and transmission electron microscopy before and during autumnal yellowing of the oldest needle generation.

Removal of nitrogen during needle senescence in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.)

Oecologia, 1994
The concentrations of arginine, protein and total nitrogen (N) and the abundance of15N were measured in 3-and 4-year-old needles of Scots pine trees fertilized with either 0 (C), 36 (N1) or 73 (N2) kg N ha-1 year-1 annually for 22 years (average doses of N).
