Coordinated Control of DFIG Converters to Comply with Reactive Current Requirements in Emerging Grid Codes

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2022
The doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is considered to provide a low-reactance path in the negative-sequence system and naturally comply with requirements on the negative-sequence reactive current in emerging grid codes.

Analysis of unbalanced clustered voltage and control strategy of clustered voltage balancing for cascaded H-bridge STATCOM

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2019
To explore the clustered voltage balancing mechanism of the cascaded H-bridge static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), this paper analyzes the causes of unbalanced clustered voltage. The negative-sequence current caused by the compensation of unbalanced

Improvement of the transient negative-sequence rating formula for large generators based on the negative-sequence current component

open access: yesInternational Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems, 2015
Summary This paper proposes an improved transient negative-sequence calculation formula for a large-capacity nuclear power generator system under unbalanced network conditions. Because of the disadvantages of traditional transient negative-sequence ratings, I2*2 t is concluded to be inadequate for rating the generator imbalance capability.

Identification and location method of asymmetric faults in coal mine power network

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua, 2018
Three asymmetrical faults of singe-phase grounding, singe-phase line breakage and ferroresonance in coal mine power network are easily misjudged, and existing methods hardly identify the three faults correctly.

Turn-to-turn fault detection in transformers using negative sequence currents [PDF]

open access: yes2011 IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference, 2011
This paper presents a new, simple and efficient protection technique which is based on negative sequence currents. Using this protection technique, it is possible to detect minor internal turn-to-turn faults in power transformers. Also, it can differentiate between internal and external faults.

A Negative-sequence Current Injection Method to Mitigate Voltage Imbalances in Microgrids

open access: yesEletrônica de Potência, 2011
This paper proposes a control strategy to reduce the voltage imbalances by injection of a proper negative-sequence current into the microgrid. This task can be done by each inverter connected to the microgrid in a shared way.

Optimized Hierarchical Power Oscillations Control for Distributed Generation Under Unbalanced Conditions

open access: yes, 2017
Control structures have critical influences on converter-interfaced distributed generations (DG) under unbalanced conditions. Most of previous works focus on suppressing active power oscillations and ripples of DC bus voltage.

On the Use of Positive Sequence Current / Negative Sequence Current Ratio for Fault Detection in Induction Motors

open access: yesRevista EIA, 2019
This paper studied the use of a new stator current feature for detection of winding and cage bars faults in an induction motor, and presents the experimental validation of a detection and identification scheme using Support Vector Machines (SVM). This validation was performed in a test bed using 2 HP, 4 pole motors in which shorted winding and broken ...
